The RS-28 Sarmat missile, nicknamed Satan II, are capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads and could potentially strike targets thousands of miles away – including the UK
Russia is still working on using its Satan II missile in combat, according to the country’s state media.
The RS-28 Sarmat missile, nicknamed Satan II, are capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads and could potentially strike targets thousands of miles away, as far as the US or Europe. The terrifying missiles, said to be the most advanced of its kind and capable of destroying the entire UK in a single blast, were first unveiled by Vladimir Putin in 2016.
This missile, when detonated, could set off a gigantic tidal wave as high as 1,640ft which would essentially knock out the UK due to the extensive damage caused. This huge wave of water – almost half the height of Scafell Pike in England’s Lake District – would carry high levels of radiation. It would turn whatever is left of Britain into a “radioactive desert”, reports the Express.
Bu the development of the missiles has been held back by delays and testing issues. Earlier this year, arms experts said the missile appeared to have suffered a “catastrophic failure” during a test launch, leaving a crater at the launch silo in northern Russia. The move to get the missiles “combat ready” comes after Putin signed a decree allowing Russian nuclear weapons to be deployed against a non-nuclear force if it was backed up by a nuclear-armed nation – such as the UK or the US.
He signed the policy as Ukraine launched attacks on Russia using US-supplied ATACMS and British-made Storm Shadow missiles, enraging the Russian leadership. According to TASS , Russia’s Defense Ministry is working on options to retaliate against strikes involving Western-made long-range weapons.
Roman Shkurlatov, a retired lieutenant colonel and chairman of the Officers of Russia public organisation said: “The enemy ignored our previous warning. It carried out a strike and did so on purpose, which means that the Western parties of the war are raising the stakes, increasing the degree of escalation. They want the conflict to reach a completely new level by January. This is being done with [US President-elect] Donald Trump’s peaceful rhetoric in mind.”
