Checked your rare coin collection recently? It’s always crucial taking a glance at your stash as you never know when you’re sitting on a fortune, or in this case a £100,000 jackpot

It’s always worth having a good clear out at times, especially if you own rare coins at home.

Certain pieces hold a mega value, whether it’s a few hundreds or even thousands, it’s still more than face value. Now did you know there’s a specific penny coin out there which is believed to be worth an eye-watering £100,000?

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 215,000 followers on his platform, recently shared a clip where he warned collectors about cleaning their coins as it could ruin their worth.

In a video, which starts with cleaning a 1933 penny worth £100,000, the user said: “The 1933 penny is probably the rarest penny out there with only seven known to exist.

“The coin you see here is actually a fake copy version of this super rare coin, these are known as pre-decimal pennies from the United Kingdom that are no longer in circulation. There are many dates to look out for.”

But he claimed while there’s a few worthy coins out there, nothing really compares to the “almighty 1933 penny worth over £100,000”. The 1933 George V penny is a rare and valuable coin with a mega estimated value.

It’s believed only six or seven of these special coins were ever minted which makes them incredibly rare. The Royal Mint struck the pennies as pattern coins not for circulation, but to be placed under the foundations of buildings constructed in 1933.

The mint also kept a small number for the British Museum and the Royal Mint Museum. It’s easy to mix up these coins as the 1933 penny has a similar design to the ones before and after it.

On its obverse, it features the head of George V, while the reverse depicts Britannia holding a trident and a shield with the Union Flag. Meanwhile, forgeries and replicas of the 1933 penny are common so it’s important to get it checked before you sell or buy one.

Since it was shared on TikTok, the video scooped a hundred likes and dozens of comments. One said: “I have that one,” while another admitted the same.” If you think you own one, it’s worth speaking to an expert to have it valued. Good luck!
