The Fourth Wing author revealed the two things fans should look for in Onyx Storm for a big hint about one character’s fate in book four

Fourth Wing fans think they have worked out the fate of one character after Rebecca Yarros shared a key hint for book four. With Onyx Storm hitting shelves on January 21, the bestselling author has been giving interviews about her writing process, favourite parts of the new book and a little of what to expect from the next book.

The third book in The Empyrean series, which also features Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, revolves around Violet Sorrengail, Xaden Riorson and the other cadets at Basgiath War College. It sold 2.7 million copies in its first week, becoming the fastest-selling adult novel in 20 years.

However, as readers who have already finished reading the book will know, it ends on a pretty big cliffhanger, with lots of unanswered questions. And with book four not expected anytime soon, it’s no surprise that TikTok is full of fans sharing their own theories to tide them over.

Warning, spoilers for the ending of Onyx Storm are below!

During a recent interview with the Fantasy Fangirls Podcast, one of the hosts asked Rebecca about one particular burning question shared by a lot of fans. Referring to the unknown character who turns Venin and is referred to as Xaden’s new brother at the end of Onyx Storm, they asked: “If one to wonder about a new family member like a brother, what might you wish we pay attention to?”

Rebecca replied: “I would pay attention to who’s missing at the end. I would pay attention to someone who feels like whatever they have been given is not enough.”

As the crowd reacted, Rebecca continued: “Which is always the case when you turn Venin. It’s always because you need to reach for power that’s beyond your own. You aren’t given enough power. It’s not a spoiler!”

In the comments section, fans were quick to theorise about who Rebecca could be referring to, with one writing: “It has to be Garrick then no? He’s the only one who wasn’t there.” Another said: “Garrick Garrick Garrick.”

Not everyone agreed however, with one also suggesting: “It’s gotta be Bodhi. Yes she says Garrick is missing but that’s just too obvious for Rebecca.” Another agreed, writing: “BODHI.”

A third added: “Bodhi! He couldn’t counter Venin signets, he felt pushed aside the entire book by Xaden, he says he’ll always be Xaden’s right-hand…”

And another commented: “How did you guys get her to spill this much TEA?!!!! So much information!!!!”
