The Saturdays singer Una Healy has described why it’s ‘onwards and upwards’ for her, following her sudden split from jockey Aiden Coleman after months of dating
Una Healy has spoken out following her shock split from Aidan Coleman.
The Saturdays star, 43, and retired Irish jockey, 36, are said to have split “amicably” following months of dating. Now, the singer has discussed the relationship breakdown for the first time.
Una confessed that appearing on new Netflix series Celebrity Bear Hunt made her “dust herself off and try again” and move “onwards and upwards”. And she also took the time to praise both the show and adventurist Bear Grylls for boosting her at a time when she needed it.
As she confirmed her split, she said: “Yes, I’m not going to talk about that – it’s onwards and upwards. I think I’m prepared for anything coming out of this jungle experience. I feel very tough from it, and I think you have to be tough in life.”
Una added: “‘Dust yourself off, try again and believe in yourself – all those things. That’s one of the things Bear Grylls said to me. He gives us all a pep talk, and he said, ‘The one thing I admire about you is your never give up attitude’. I would say that to everyone, just never give up.”
The breakup news emerges as Aidan himself disclosed in a heartfelt chat with Thoroughbred Daily News about the challenges of resettling in Ireland post-retirement, leading to his return to the UK. Meanwhile, just days after Una had been seen partying with former rugby star Danny Cipriani, who was a former team mate of her ex-husband Ben Foden. Una and Danny were seen sharing a taxi home following the Netflix show’s premiere afterparty.
Prior to Una’s appearance on Celebrity Bear Hunt, there had been speculation about the pair’s potential interactions. It comes as Una’s ex Ben previously discussed struggles with Una being more famous than him.
Speaking to the Mirror at the time, Ben said: “My girlfriend is in the limelight more than me. If I am ever pictured with her it’s normally, ‘Here is Una Healy… and rugby boyfriend Ben Foden’. I’m never going to be the main focus.
“I’ve never been a big clubber anyway. It’s always been a part of the rugby culture to get drunk – but I do it with the boys! For me, it’s rugby, rugby, rugby. Cipriani has been a bit unlucky. He has probably done it a bit too soon. He needed to concentrate on his rugby a little bit more.”
Una was married to rugby star Ben from 2012 until 2018. The pair share two children, Aoife Belle, 11 and nine-year-old Tadhg. They divorced after Ben was unfaithful to her. He confessed to infidelity but later stated in an interview with The Guardian: “At the moment anything that’s published about me is never very good and pretty rightly so, because I was the one who committed adultery. But at the same time, it wasn’t the only reason for our divorce to go through.”
