Viral footage on TikTok shows roller coaster passengers making the 22-metre descent down from a popular ride on foot after it halted in mid-air due to a ‘power outage’
Terrified thrill-seekers were forced to climb down from a roller coaster on foot.
Footage of the incident went viral on TikTok on Monday (October 21) showing people clinging to a railing as they carefully made their way down from the ride at Parque del Café, a theme park in Quindío, Colombia.
The person who captured the video said a “power outage” caused the roller coaster to stop suddenly halfway through its journey. They said in the clip: “There was a power outage and all passengers had to get off and walk. Some people are scared, nervous, but it’s a unique experience.”
According to La FM, park officials said the power outage was dealt with by stopping the ride, to prevent carts rolling back. The roller coaster returned to operation a short while later after the necessary checks were carried out. Park officials added that similar incidents occur on rides all across the world, hence there were procedures to follow to avoid an accident.
The theme park’s website states the ride reaches a maximum height of 22 metres. The carts travel up a spiral-shaped section before descending in free fall, hitting speeds of up to 80kmph (50mph).

Noticias Caracol reports a similar situation occurred at the same theme park back in January this year. Then, seven people including one child had to be rescued from a different ride.
