Manchester United battled back to claim a point away at Liverpool to end their losing run, though head coach Ruben Amorim still has just two league wins since taking charge

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was left frustrated despite his Manchester United team claiming a point away to Premier League leaders Liverpool., pointing to their failure to produce the same sort of high-level performance in previous games.

Lisandro Martinez put Amorim’s men in front, only for a Cody Gakpo strike and a Mohamed Salah penalty to turn things around for the hosts. Amad found an equaliser, though, and United might even have won if Harry Maguire was able to keep his shot down deep into stoppage-time.

The result stemmed the flow of losses for Amorim’s side, while ending a three-match scoreless run. Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle had all beaten United to nil before their Anfield trip.

In isolation, a point away to the league leaders is a solid result. However, United remain in the bottom half of the table and more than 20 points behind Sunday’s opponents.

“That should be a big issue for our players that even one person thinks you have the ability but not the character, we have to fight that and change that,” Amorim told Sky Sports “I think it is really clear. When we are focused, when we fight for every ball, when we suffer and we are tired when the game is finished, we are a good team.

“If we don’t do that all the time then we are going to lose games. That is clear to everybody. We controlled very well the tempo of the game. Every time Liverpool had a chance, we controlled and had the ball for a moment. That makes a difference.

“You could see in the game, it was not like we are not suffering all the time because we controlled the ball, sometimes winning some fouls, controlling the transitions. It was a good game. I’m happy for the performance not happy for the result. But I’m really, really mad because of the other games.”
