Transfer speculation has started over the future of Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Amorim has offered his thoughts on the rumours and revealed his stance on the captain

Ruben Amorim has said he understands the transfer speculation surrrounding Bruno Fernandes but wants to keep the Portugal star at Old Trafford. Speculation has mounted on the Manchester United talisman following a difficult season for the club.

Reports have emerged of interest from the Saudi Pro League, but Amorim was clear in wanting to retain the services of his captain. Al-Hilal are said to be ready to lodge a significant offer for United’s top goalscorer.

Fernandes, 30, has recorded 19 goals and 18 assists this season despite the Red Devils dwelling near the bottom of the Premier League and played a key role in the club reaching the Europa League semi-final. The midfielder saw speculation over his position at the club last summer but eventually signed a contract until 2027, with an option for a further year, in August.

And Amorim would loathe to lose a key player as he attempts to transform United’s fortune.

“I think it is easy to understand that [transfer speculation], not just because of the numbers but the way he plays,” said Amorim. “He is a top player and we need to top players. He is a leader, the captain. It is natural that people want Bruno, but we want to keep him. He is one of the top players of the world.”
