A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter will see the singer perform songs from her festive EP Fruitcake, as well as other seasonal numbers throughout the Netflix special

Streaming platform Netflix has announced it will show a Sabrina Carpenter Christmas special featuring duets and comedy performances.

A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter will be the 25-year-old’s first Christmas show, and will see her perform songs from her festive EP Fruitcake, along with other seasonal songs. There will also be special guests to perform “unexpected” duets and comedy routines.

Speaking about the Christmas special, Carpenter, who is dating Irish actor Barry Keoghan, said: “The holidays have always been so special to me. I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.” In a trailer for the show, Carpenter can be seen dressed in a festive outfit, while sleigh bells jingle in the background as she asks viewers: “Expecting someone else?”

In a teaser shared on social media, Carpenter can be seen donning a Mrs Santa outfit as she walks through a festive wonderland and asks: “Expecting someone else?” The official Instagram account for Netflix captioned the snippet: “This is really gonna jingle your bells A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter — her first-ever holiday special — features unexpected duets and comedic guests you will not want to miss! Mark your calendars for Dec 6 at 9PM ET/ 6 PM PT.”

“This is the greatest thing you’ve ever done Netflix,” one delighted fan declared in the comments, with others wondering if Carpenter’s “expecting someone else” quip was a dig at Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey, the woman behind the festive classic All I Want For Christmas is You. “Expecting someone else? Is nasty work Mariah better go hide,” one Instagram user penned in the comments, with another fearing: “Is this a Mariah Carey diss??”

Carpenter is producing A Nonsense Christmas alongside OBB Pictures under her At Last Productions banner, with the intention being to “subvert the classic holiday special”. It comes after the singer dominated the UK singles chart this year, after releasing sixth album Short N’ Sweet, with her single Espresso being crowned the UK’s song of the summer by the Official Charts Company.

In June, she was named as the youngest female artist to hold the top two spots of the UK singles chart with Please Please Please and Espresso, at number one and two respectively. In July, she became the first female artist in Official Charts history to spend three consecutive weeks at number one and two in the UK concurrently with the tracks. The special will be released on Friday December 6.
