The US singer is well-known for her song ‘Espresso’, but she actually favours a different energy-boosting drink

‘Espresso’ singer Sabrina Carpenter is known for her high-energy performances and powerhouse vocals. If you’ve ever wondered how she fuels her Short n’ Sweet shows, it turns out a popular herbal drink could play a part in her routine.

Hopefully, it goes without saying that a balanced diet is the key to a healthy lifestyle. While there’s lots that can be said about the singer’s approach to nutrition and her wellness regime – she’s known to love Pilates, weight training and infrared saunas – there’s also a particular drink she loves.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Sabrina revealed, “My fans know that I have a very terrible obsession with yerba mate, an Argentinian tea. It’s been an addiction for quite some time now,” referencing the herbal tea, which contains caffeine and is associated with numerous health benefits.

As per Healthline, the traditional South American drink boosts energy levels, contains antioxidants, and may help to lower blood sugar. It’s possible it also helps protect against infections and helps you lose weight.

“Yerba mate may improve insulin signalling and blood sugar control. However, more human research is needed,” Healthline notes. Meanwhile, there’s also scientific backing to suggest it could decrease fat cells and may have anti-bacterial properties, but again, more research would be beneficial.

If you’re receiving medical care for any conditions, including diabetes, it’s important you follow the advice of your healthcare practitioner and speak to your GP before making any diet or lifestyle changes. However, people who can try yerba mate might wish to give it a go. As with most things, it’s best enjoyed in moderation.

The drink is often served with milk, lemon juice or sugar, and like other teas, you can drink it hot or cold. It’s thought to be very popular among a range of celebrities and athletes, including footballers. There’s something to think about next time you’re singing ‘Espresso.’
