Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has a “divine” new product that shoppers are eager to track down so they can try it for themselves, especially because it boasts an “accidental” added perk

Sainsbury’s shoppers are eager to get their hands on a spring-themed sweet treat that offers an unexpected – and seemingly “accidental” – bonus.

Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s is known and loved for its high-quality and extensive array of food, cleaning products, household essentials, homeware, and much more. Like its competitors, the retailer releases themed products in keeping with the changing seasons and big calendar events, like Valentine’s Day, Easter and more.

Though Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, Sainsbury’s is already stocking delectable spring goodies in anticipation of warmer weather and Easter. Its new coffee and chocolate flavoured hot cross buns have caused quite the stir – especially because they’re “accidentally” vegan.

The term “accidentally vegan” refers to the medley of products that just so happen to be vegan without being marketed or even necessarily designed to be that way.

Some surprising vegan items include Oreos; Skittles; Bourbon biscuits; many flavours of Walkers crisps; Chilli Heatwave and Lightly Salted Doritos; Lotus biscoff biscuits and spread; Beef and Tomato, Bombay Bad Boy, Sweet and Sour and Southern Fried Chicken Pot Noodles; and many more.

Sainsbury’s new Coffee and Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Buns, which cost £1.80 for a pack of four, were shared by popular Instagram account, Vegan Food UK. Sharing an image of the indulgent snack, they penned: “SPOTTED ALREADY! Coffee & Chocolate Flavour Buns. Have you found these yet? What do you think to the flavour?

“We friggin LOVE that hot cross Buns are usually accidentally vegan (and if they’re not then the manufacturers are missing out on a huge market quite frankly!) Apparently they are divine tasting too! First reviews gives them a 10/10. These cost £1.80 at Sainsbury’s.”

People were keen to share their thoughts in the comments section. One person said: “Omg can’t wait to get my hands on these.”

Another said: “They’re so good too!! And I also saw a cinnamon and brown sugar flavour that looked vegan,” while a third commented: “Wow I’m going to get them.”

Someone else said: “I’m gonna need to stock up on these!” But another fan wasn’t entirely convinced by one of the ingredients: “Oh chocolate yes – coffee not so sure.”

Another shopper joked: “Omg, I’m getting fat again [crying laughing emoji] they look amazing,” while another added: “Will absolutely be making a bread and butter pudding out of these.”

Several others simply tagged their friends to direct their attention to the post.

On the product description on the Sainsbury’s website, they’re described as having been “made with sultanas, dark chocolate chips and coffee powder”. The buns are also “hand-crossed” and “made with a sourdough starter” while “the dough is enhanced with Brazilian Coffee, cocoa powder, molasses and juicy sultanas.”
