Zara McDermott and Sam Thompson fans have been trying to work out what went from for the reality TV star couple as they believe they have rumbled who is the reason for their split
Fans believe they have rumbled who is behind Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott’s split.
The couple decided to end their romance, which came as a surprise to their fans following Sam’s recent declaration of love to Zara, 28. They had been together since 2019 and share a stunning London home with their beloved cats. However, Sam, 32, and Zara had spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve apart from each other before news of their split emerged.
Neither Sam or Zara have publicly commented on the breakup – yet fans have been trying to get to the bottom of what went wrong. They were last seen together in December celebrating Zara’s birthday as Sam shared a post calling her his “soulmate” and hinted at a potential engagement.
He wrote: “My best friend, and soul mate….some would say my person. I’m afraid you’re stuck with me forever happy birthday. I love you so much, and wow have I missed you over the past month! Here’s to another amazing year with you.” Since the split, fans have gone back to the gushing post and believed it was a lack of Sam proposing to Zara that led to their split.
Many followers begged Sam to pop the question and ask Zara to marry him. One said: “In the words of Beyoncé. If you like it then you should put a ring on it.” Another added: “If she is going to be with you forever, why not put a ring on it. What are you waiting for.” Someone else commented: “Propose, no time like the present,” and a fourth wrote: “Mate, buy her a ring FFS”.
Yet, another fan simply asked: “How can going to be together two weeks ago to splitting up days later…this is rather extreme!!” Fans over on Reddit also questioned the pair having not got engaged in the last five years. One person said: “A shame but not surprising. I always found it odd how much they talked about wanting to get married one day but never got engaged. I always sensed Sam wasn’t sure.”
Another fan agreed, saying: “This is it for me for two people who seemed so committed to show themselves as happy and healthy they did not seem in any rush to get engaged and married. That’s always a sign things probably aren’t going as well as they want to make everyone believe.”
Not everyone agreed though, with it noted that a couple not getting engaged is not necessarily a sign of potential issues in their relationship. One person reacted: “It’s common when you meet young to wait a bit to get married.” Others suggested that Zara having cheated on Sam in 2019 may have affected their relationship.
In the 2019 edition of The X Factor: Celebrity, it was revealed that Zara cheated on Sam with Brahim Fouradi, a music industry executive who has worked on talent shows such as The X Factor as part of his duties as A&R director at Simon Cowell’s company Syco. It’s understood this breach of trust had a profound effect on Sam.
Sam ended their 16-month relationship in September 2020 after he got wind of her affair with Brahim. Zara admitted to being unfaithful in now-iconic scenes shown on the E4 reality show, aired in 2020. At the time, Sam was widely criticised for accepting Zara’s apology and taking her back, while Zara also faced abuse online for her actions.
