Saturday Kitchen’s wine expert Helen McGinn’s comment led to a hilarious exchange.
A budget-friendly bottle of wine sparked a moment that left the entire Saturday Kitchen panel in hysterics. Earlier this month, wine guru Helen McGinn showcased the bargain buy, telling viewers: “If you want to try it, get it now because it won’t be around for long.”
This prompted Greg James to cry out: “Don’t tell everyone about it!”. Amidst laughter around the table, he swiftly moved the bottle away from the cameras, declaring: “This is for us! Don’t show the label.”
Helen played along, claiming the wine was “really terrible”, whilst Greg feigned retching and made sure to add: “Don’t buy this, it’s horrible.”
The wine causing all the fuss is the £8.99 Aldi Specially Selected Cigales Rosado, reports the Express.
Helen subsequently posted a video of the exchange on her Instagram and continued to play along: “Don’t buy this horrible wine.”
She added: “Had lots of messages from those who managed to get their hands on this gorgeous Spanish rosé from Cigales we had on @saturday.kitchen over the weekend despite @greg_james best efforts.
“We don’t often see rosé from this under the radar region on our supermarket shelves so props to @aldiuk for stocking this one.”
Cigales, a lesser-known area in northern Spain, has been cultivating wine for hundreds of years and is celebrated for its rosé production.
Instagram users weighed in with their own verdicts.
One fan commented: “Sorry, I bought some, it was delicious!” and Helen responded: “Hooray!”
Another fan gushed: “Cigales is fab for rosé wines! Although it’s their reds I’m really in love with.”
“I watched this on Sunday as a repeat and haven’t been able to grab a bottle but tonight my friend I got the very last one,” another shared, to which Helen replied: “Great friend.”
One happy customer said: “Had a bottle of this at the weekend as it was available still (last two bottles! ) absolutely lovely xx”.
“Didn’t didn’t [go] and buy 6 bottles on Saturday,” quipped another.
