Charlotte Mulhall remains behind bars for the gruesome murder of her mum’s boyfriend but the Scissor Sister, who could soon be freed, has been putting her spare time to good use inside
A notorious killer who was involved in one of Ireland’s most “grotesque” crimes has been passing the time in prison with a surprising hobby.
Charlotte and Linda Mulhall killed their mum’s boyfriend, Farah Swaleh Noor, 20 years ago, before chopping off his body parts including his head and penis around St Patrick’s weekend in March 2005.
The victim, who had a reputation for violence against women, allegedly made unwanted advances on Linda before Charlotte inflicted 27 stab wounds on him using a Stanley knife. Linda meanwhile struck him with a claw hammer before the siblings dissected his body on the bathroom floor.
His limbs and torso were found in the Dublin Royal Canal before Charlotte was eventually given a life sentence for murder. Linda was handed a 15-year sentence for manslaughter and their mum, Kathleen, got five years for impeding the probe by hiding evidence.
While Linda and Kathleen are now free women, Charlotte remains behind bars. And she has reportedly been putting her time to good use.
Prison hobby
Charlotte, now 39, is Ireland’s longest serving female prisoner and in recent times she has been showing her cuddly side inside Limerick Prison.
A source told the Irish Sun on Sunday: “Mulhall is big into sewing and knitting and spending hours every day making things including gorgeous little teddy bears. She’s very talented.
“She is a lot more settled than when she first arrived from Dublin’s Dochas Centre, but that could be down to the fact that she knows freedom is coming soon.”
The source added that she was a “model prisoner” and has already been allowed temporary visits outside of jail where she is supervised on walks or on cinema trips.
Charlotte is said to knit and sew the teddy bears before giving them to other prisoners who then gift them to their children.
Despite potentially being a free woman soon, her crime once shocked the nation, with Garda Daniel Kenna reflecting: “I have worked on a lot of murders and murder is murder but in this circumstance, the fact that the body was mutilated in the way it was after the killing and the fact that it was done by women made it particularly gruesome.”
Judge Paul Carney called it “the most grotesque killing that has ever occurred” in his professional career while former Detective Superintendent Frank Keenaghan added: “This was a particularly gruesome and shocking crime and certainly everybody has been aware of it.
“It was the talk of the country that this person should be murdered, stabbed, dismembered, and then the body part gotten rid of.”
Linda Mulhall
While Charlotte is still waiting to be released, her sister, Linda, was freed in 2018. After being approached by reporters afterwards, she said: “I just want to get on with living my life. I don’t want to be giving any story.”
Nikita Mulhall, Linda’s daughter, praised her mum on social media after the release, crediting her for ridding the streets of a “dirty rapist”. She wrote: “Boils my blood no one will ever know the true story to what happened. If he was in prison and the three of them were in the ground, how much different would it have been?”
The mum and fitness instructor added: “You’ve done your time, Linda, well done – go live your life, you deserve it.” She reportedly relocated to the UK after leaving prison and has remained under the radar ever since.
