Jordan Maclachlan was tragically killed on the frontline after joining the Ukrainian army to help fight Russian troops following Putin’s invasion in February 2022

A Scottish man volunteering as a medic on Ukraine’s frontline has been killed in action, his family has confirmed.

Jordan Maclachlan had been helping Ukrainian forces fight Russia following Putin’s invasion nearly three years ago. The 26-year-old, from Ardnamurchan in the Highlands, joined Ukraine’s army soon after the ground offensive.

He died on Friday, his family said in a statement, adding they had been “so proud” of his efforts in the war. The young man was described as “fun-loving” and a “friend to many”.

In a statement to the BBC, the Maclachlans said: “Jordan always believed that he was making a difference and we are all so proud of him helping others. We are waiting for further information from the Foreign Office as information is very limited.

“Jordan was a fun-loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.” The family has also asked for privacy.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Ukraine and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Jordan is one of many Brits to have risked their lives helping Ukraine on the frontline since the February 2022 invasion. In November, 22-year-old Callum Tindal-Draper was killed in action fighting Russian troops.

The month prior, special operations expert Corporal Chris Gill, 35, died during an exercise with his regiment on the Brecon Beacons, Wales, while training Ukrainian forces.

The world waits to see what the incoming second Trump administration has planned for the war, with him previously taking issue with US aid to Ukraine and vague vows to end the war. Trump has also previously praised Putin’s leadership.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer however has doubled down in pledging the UK’s support for Ukraine, which he previously told President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was “iron clad”.
