Benny Blanco has been making headlines with his relationship with Selena Gomez, but the music producer actually made a name for himself, creating some of the biggest songs of 2010
Many people know Benny Blanco through his relationship with Selena Gomez, but did you know that he’s actually behind some of the biggest songs of the 2010s?
Benny, whose real name is Benjamin Joseph Levin, has an outstanding portfolio when it comes to music thanks to his work as a writer and producer. He has worked with the biggest names in the music industry, earning him 11 Grammy nominations for big categories, including Album of The Year, Song of The Year and Producer of The Year.
In a podcast interview with content creator Daniel Wall, Benny spoke about his music career whilst casually mentioning his relationship with Selena Gomez. You’d be surprised to discover that he’s behind major songs like Selena’s 2015 hit Same Old Love, and Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself from the same year.

Although Benny isn’t always in the spotlight, he has been on the music scene for over two decades, producing from chart-topping dance tracks to heartfelt ballads. So, chances are you’ve sung your heart out to Benny’s tunes without realising it.
He has collaborated with numerous artists, including Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Halsey, Taio Cruz, Britney Spears, Maroon 5, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and, of course, his soon-to-be wife, Selena Gomez.
During the interview, he shared how he met Ed and collaborated on his Divide album, where majority of the tracks, including Perfect and Castle On the Hill, became chart-topping hits for consecutive weeks.
Benny spoke about his odd first interaction with Ed, telling Daniel: “Ed was like, ‘Nice to meet you,’ and all I wrote was, ‘Hi, I have to sh-t.’ Everyone was like, ‘Why did you do that? He’s never going to write back!’ And then a day later, he wrote back, ‘Me too.’ I thought, okay, now I know I’m going to be friends with this guy.”
Benny and Ed worked on his album for almost two years, which ended up becoming his biggest one to-date. Divide sold around 40 million copies – and they were all created in the most random settings, such as buses, studios and even Ed’s home.
“My manager called me up and said, ‘hey, there’s this guy just starting to put out music in the UK, and I think he’s really good.’ They played me The A Team, and I was like, “I’ve got to work with this man right now,” Benny explained to Daniel.
Fans took to the comments to share their shock at Benny’s extensive music catalogue, with one writing: “Benny is like one of the founding fathers of pop music” while a second shared: “I wonder what it feels like to be the driving force of 90% of music culture for a whole decade.”
A third put: “I guess no one truly realizes how many hits Benny made in the 2010’s and even now to this day” and another added: “I am absolutely fascinated by how his mind works, he’s genius”.
Benny recently released a joint album with Selena, titled I Said I Love You First, which they released on March 21st.
