From cobweb ‘breeding grounds’ to ‘unhygienic’ kitchen fittings – a pro cleaner has dished the dirt on the worse items she’s ever come across in her career and explained why should avoid them

Brits are being urged to ditch these home features that are a nightmare to keep clean.

If you’re tired of constantly tidying up and still feeling like the house doesn’t look presentable, it might be time to say goodbye to some of your clutter. A professional cleaner, known as Clean With J online, is here to help. The content creator has amassed more than 15,000 followers thanks to candidly sharing the behind-the-scenes of her cleaning business. While J usually posts tutorials and product reviews, she’s recently revealed the top things she’d never have in her own home due to them making her job a lot harder than it needs to be.

‘Fancy’ toothbrush holders that have several compartments are a huge no-no for the cleaner. “What happened to normal ones?” she raged. “These are so tricky and time-consuming to clean compared to a normal one.” Huge sunroof windows, while great for lighting up the house, are another red flag. J branded them a ‘breeding ground for cobwebs’ and argues they’re extremely ‘tricky to clean’. Wooden worktops in the kitchen also seem to rile her. “There’s just something these that don’t seem hygienic in my opinion,” she said. “Also, if you let a food stain harden on this, that’s 10 minutes out of your day you’re not going to get back.”

Despite their sleek appearance, the cleaning ace says mirrored light switches are a ‘bitter sweet’ appliance to clean. “They’re good because you can see every fingerprint and you realise how dirty light switches get,” she explained. When it comes to blocking out the sun, J slams built-in blinds for building up ‘so much dust’ and quickly becoming a ‘breeding ground for cobwebs’. But one of her biggest pet peeves is placing your bed right next to the window. “Could be a niche [dislike] for cleaners this, but I do not want to climb on your bed to clean the window,” she said. “My rule is always no outside clothes on the bed.”
