Kristin Davis has said that she began dating an actor when she had plenty of money from Sex and the City and Melrose Place – but he cut and run after she loaned him money

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis, 59, has shared a dating horror story which resulted in her being thousands of dollars out of pocket.

The actress, who rose to fame playing Charlotte York on the show, recalled being ghosted after lending money to an actor – who went on to become very successful. Kristin couldn’t remember exactly when the actor cut and run but said that it was around the time of SATC or her work on Melrose Place two to three decades ago.

Kristin shared the tale on her podcast Are You a Charlotte, speaking to guest Sarah Wynter. She described: “I did one time date this out-of-work actor. I think this was before Sex and the City, maybe between Melrose and Sex and the City, or maybe when I was on Melrose. I don’t know.”

The HBO star kept the identity of the man a secret, but did note that he’s “now very successful”. She added: “He was very talented. But, at the time, I had money because I’d been working, and I was at his house and he had all of these, ‘your electricity’s gonna be turned off,’ like all those notices that you get when you can’t pay your bills. They were all just all over his house, right?

“And I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ And then I think he wrecked his motorcycle, which is like how he got around town to his auditions. And I was like, ‘Can I lend you some money?’”

Kristin described the offer as “a horrible mistake” and warned her fans: “Anyone listening, do not lend anyone money that you are dating. Do not do it. It doesn’t end well. It really irked me.”

Soon after she gave the money, it “changed the dynamic” of her relationship “in a really horrible way”, with Kristin sharing: “It was kind of a casual thing. I probably should’ve known better,” said Davis. “But I just felt like, ‘I can help. I should help this guy. He’s so talented,’ which he is.”

She then outlined: “I lend him money. I think it was all of $5000. So I lent him this money and then he stops calling. I’m like, ‘What the heck?’”

Kristin shared how she didn’t immediately let it go, and went to his apartment but he wouldn’t answer the door. She remembered hearing his dog inside and wondering: “‘Is he in there and pretending that he is not in there?’”

She added: “And then later on, he called me and was like, ‘Did you come to my house and bang on my door?’ And I was like, ‘Well, yes.’ I felt so embarrassed, like I was being messy.”

After Sarah joked that Kristin should get her money back “with interest” now, Kristin admitted: “I just would love some acknowledgment or whatever, which is kind of a fantasy.”

Giving another tiny hint about his identity as she explained why she wouldn’t be following up on the loan, she added: “He lives out in the country with some children, so I don’t think I want to show up there.”

Unfortunately, Kristin admitted that it took one more upsetting experience to learn not to mix romance and finance. “I can’t say that was the last time I did it. I think the next time was the last time,” she said.
