A foodie has taken to TikTok to share her go-to recipe for DIY air fryer churros that she says are ‘one of the best things I’ve eaten’ – they cook in minutes

Airfryer fans, rejoice. There’s another delicious dessert hack doing the rounds on social media and it’s an absolute must-try.

The latest culinary craze that’s swept across TikTok is light, fluffy air fryer churros made from crumpets. You might assume that your humble air fryer is a kitchen gadget that’s best used for crisping up frozen chips or breathing new life into your leftover takeaway but, if you know how to use it, your air fryer can also be used to whip up some seriously impressive sweet treats. One recipe that’s recently gone viral puts a British twist on churros, which are traditionally a Spanish and Portuguese dessert.

Usually made from choux pastry dough and deep-fried in oil, until fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, and then rolled in a mix of sugar and cinnamon, these sweet treats are becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Believe it or not, you can get the same taste at home with a packet of crumpets and your air fryer. Social media foodie, Elli Tamar has shared their take on the incredible recipe.

In her now-viral video, Elli can be seen chopping up a packet of crumpets, before pouring melted butter, some sugar, and some cinnamon on the pieces, and then mixing it all together. While she didn’t specify the exact amount of each ingredient to use, Elli recommended using ‘a little bit’ of each and setting the sweetness level based on personal preference.

She then adds the coated crumpet pieces to her airfryer to cook at 180 and recommends cooking ‘until crispy’. When Elli removes the ‘churros’ from her air fryer they’re golden and super crunchy. She then opted to serve them with chocolate sauce but said you could also use melted chocolate if preferred. People were quick to comment on the video, with one person writing: “And off I go to get crumpets.” A second said: What an awesome idea, YES… Thank you for sharing.” While a third added: “They’re delicious aren’t they!”
