David Kim, a skincare expert and influencer, went viral last year with his advice on how to achieve the perfect skin. Now he’s back with advice for those who wear makeup on the plane

Skincare guru David Kim, who has become a social media sensation for his beauty industry insights, has some no-nonsense advice for makeup lovers when flying.

The 34-year-old, who shot to fame in early 2020, is on a steadfast quest to help his followers achieve flawless skin. In a recent TikTok video, he addressed his whopping 506,100 fans under the handle @thekorean, with tips on how to keep your skin radiant while on a plane. He warned: “Being on an airplane is literally one of the worst things you can do to your skin so here are a couple tips you can use so you can glow.” David highlighted the need to ditch makeup on flights to avoid dehydrating your skin. He detailed: “Your skin will get oily to compensate for the dryness and your makeup is gonna look all pasty.”

He also shed light on why we often feel parched during air travel, pointing out that the cabin’s low humidity levels are to blame as about half the air comes from outside where it’s moisture-starved at high altitudes, causing our throat, nose, and skin to dry out, reports Gloucestershire Live.

David stressed the essential habit of drinking more water on flights to avoid the intensified effects of alcohol which are exacerbated by dehydration. He also warned: “Being so high up also prevents blood flow to your face so you will look dull and colorless. What I do when I get off a flight is I always do a couple of squats.”

Moreover, David delved into the need for SPF protection while flying, explaining: “Because you’re 30,000 feet up in the air that means you’re 30,000 feet closer to the sun so make sure to have your airplane windows closed or wear lots of sunscreen because it will damage your skin.”

Followers voiced their approval of David’s insights. Echoing his sentiments, an ex-cabin crew member chimed in: “As a former flight attendant, I 100% agree with the sunscreen part! Since we must wear makeup, I have found ways to keep it intact.” One follower raised a question about facial care during flights due to concerns over germs and recycled cabin air: “I’ve seen ppl do skincare on the plane but I wasn’t sure if that’s good bc of the air? I read that it just traps the recycled air into your skin.” In response, David reassured them, admitting: “That’s meeee. It’s ok it’s better than having dry skin.”
