If you love Sky Go it’s time to check your iPhone and iPad are running the current operating systems from Apple

Sky is making a big change today and it could leave some without access to one of its most popular features. It’s been confirmed that access to Sky Go is being cut off on certain Apple devices using older operating systems. That means those with iPhones or iPads that aren’t up to date will find the application no longer works with the deadline to switch to new software kicking in from today, September 17.

Sky Go is a much-loved platform that lets Sky users watch live and on-demand content when away from home. It also lets customers download shows and movies to watch away from 5G and Wi-Fi connections and it can even be used to set recordings and control the Sky box should the remote go missing.

With all those features baked inside it’s not surprising why so many people use it but to keep it active it’s vital to check the settings on those Apple products.

To use Sky Go from today Sky users will need to be running iOS 13, iOS 14, iOS 15, iOS 16 or iOS 17 or the newly launched iOS 18.

“For Sky Go on iOS, we’re removing support for iOS 12 by 17 September. We’ve updated the app and sky.com pages to reflect the change,” Sky confirmed.

“To ensure we provide the best possible experience to Sky Go customers, from time to time, we stop supporting older operating system versions. Users who are on this iOS version won’t be able to use the Sky Go app after this date. They’ll need to update to iOS 13+ to continue using the app. This impacts iOS users only, not other Sky Go platforms.”

If you have an iPhone or iPad you can check if your system software is up to date by heading to Settings > General > Software Update.

Sadly, some much older devices – such as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 – can’t switch to iOS 13 as they are no longer compatible with the latest operating system.

If you have an old iPhone, now could be a good time to upgrade. Apple has just confirmed the release of iOS 18 which arrives with a swathe of new features and ways to customise your home screen.
