There has been no festive indulging for Spencer Matthews as he paraded his toned torso on Instagram as fans told the reality star it was a ‘super-human achievement’

Ripped reality star Spencer Matthews has been showing off some muscle on social media as he detailed how he got into the best shape of his life – but some followers were far from inspired.

He has been sharing his secrets but while fans hailed his ‘super-human achievement’ after he earned the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive marathons run on sand, others took aim. While most of us are writing off December as the festive period looms, Spencer is staying fully focused.

The 36-year-old took to Instagram to outline the changes that have made the biggest difference to his “physique and overall wellbeing”. Yes, it’s bad news for those planning on a drink or two in the next few weeks – cutting right back on the booze is near the top of his hit-list.

Spencer says he rarely eats a thing before 1pm and says he is strict with the food he does put into his body. His training is also key and spoke of the big changes he has made to make to his life – but some said they haven’t got to the time or the money that he has to get into shape.

Charting his five tips, Spencer wrote: “1: Eating clean unprocessed food. I try to make sure that where possible I eat fresh, single-ingredient food. Lots of steak, eggs, rice, vegetables, fruit, nuts and yogurt. 2: Regular strength training. Lifting weights at least three times a week for an hour at a time has become not only a necessary part of my routine but something that I would struggle to live without.

“3: Cardio… Running / cycling. Adding regular cardio to my training has completely changed my athletic ability and mental state. The more time you give to this the more your life will change for the better. Get out there and move… You don’t become old then immobile, you become immobile then get old.

“4: Avoiding / Limiting alcohol. I only drink very occasionally and even then I wonder what the point is? I’m long past finding it “fun” and there is no benefit to it whatsoever. There are many great products out there that can replace alcohol if you get the urge to drink. @‌cleanco is a good place to start.”

He signed off with a controversial fifth and said: “Fasting. I generally won’t eat anything before 12-1pm. I’m not particularly rigorous with this but tend to only eat when I’m hungry. We do not need anything like three meals a day.” His list didn’t exactly inspire others.

One fan told him: “Please recognise not everyone has the privilege of money or time to be able to follow this. Intermittent fasting is also not suitable for everyone, it had consistently shown to lead to hormonal and blood sugar imbalances in women compared to men. Please share sustainable messages to your followers and not those which can cause harmful or disordered eating.”

Another sarcastically said: “”Well done you! All you say is true, but let’s not forget that 80% of the country isn’t blessed with the time or money that allows for this level of commitment leaving them disillusioned.” But there were plenty of positive comments as well.

A follower told him: “I don’t quite know how you achieved this monumental challenge. It is a super-human achievement. You are a machine! with what is clearly, an unbreakable desire and focus. A gargantuan success that was clearly fuelled by more than just fitness and stamina. Hugest congratulations Spencer.”
