Stephen Mulhern pays tribute to to his dad at Royal Variety Performance

Stephen Mulhern shared an emotional tribute to his late father following his performance on the Royal Variety stage. His heartfelt tribute followed an evening of remarkable acts, filled with performances from top musicians, comedians, and theatre stars.

Known for his roles in shows like Deal or No Deal and Dancing on Ice, the popular TV presenter has been facing a difficult time this year following the tragic passing of his father earlier in the year. Alongside presenting, Stephen built a career as a magician and has performed magic tricks on various television programs. He took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall, performing a magic trick in front of His Majesty The King and millions of viewers at home.

Upon completion, the star dedicated the performance to his late father saying: “That was for you dad.”

During his Royal Variety Performance, Stephen also dedicated one of his magic acts to his late grandfather, saying: “Well, there’s a reason I do this trick, I don’t want to bring the atmosphere down, but my Grandad taught me how to do this trick when I was just 11 years old. Sadly, my Grandad passed away two weeks ago.” During this emotional moment, an audience member, invited onstage to assist with the act, accidentally triggered streamers. This led Stephen to shout, “Stop this! That was the wrong time, my friend! What the hell were you thinking?!” He then proceeded to escort the individual offstage.

Stephen has had a tough few weeks but is now recovering. Aside from suffering from the shock loss of his beloved father, just a few weeks ago, the Dancing on Ice host had to be treated by NHS medics after he collapsed while in a Pizza Express in Berkshire.

He is believed to have suffered a bad reaction to some medication after having a few drinks with his meal. Earlier that day he underwent a procedure for which he was administered an anaesthetic.

Pizza Express staff are said to have become concerned for the telly favourite’s welfare, so called an ambulance at around 8pm that night. After being checked over by paramedics, Stephen was taken to a hospital in Surrey and checked over as a precaution. The star is now recovering at home.

A source previously shared how the bereavement “hit him hard” with his team, ITV bosses and long-term pal and You Bet! co-host Holly Willoughby on hand to offer support. The source told The Mirror: “Stephen has had an incredibly tough time over the past few weeks. His beloved father recently passed away, which has hit him hard and has been understandably very stressful.

“In addition he had a procedure which took place yesterday. Following the anaesthetic that was administered, he had a few drinks, which made him unwell, and he was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He is now back home recovering.”

Stephen has also pulled out of his role on The Big Soap Quiz while he takes time off to mourn his father.
