A former Strictly Come Dancing star has claimed that three members of the Royal Family could be about to sign up to the show – and they’re all huge fans of the BBC competition
A former Strictly Come Dancing star has suggested that three specific members of the Royal Family could potentially join the show. Dan Walker, a Channel 5 presenter who graced the Strictly dance floor in the 19th season of the popular BBC dance competition, disclosed that he had a conversation with one of the royals just six weeks ago.
He revealed that the royals are avid viewers of the show and named three members who might be most likely to make an appearance on the dance floor, according to the Mail. Dan stated: “I spoke to her about six weeks ago, and [the royals] all watch it. Fergie is probably the one [who would do it], or maybe one of her daughters, but so much time is required.”
Earlier this year, it was reported that Sarah Ferguson, also known as Fergie, declined an offer to join the 20th series, despite being a familiar face on television.
Besides her appearances on ITV’s This Morning, the Duchess of York also made a cameo in a 1998 episode of Friends titled The One With Ross’s Wedding. The Royal Family’s fondness for the popular dance show is well-documented, with Strictly pro Nadiya Bychkova previously claiming that Princess Anne “wants to go on the show” and that another member “knew everything”.
Speaking to Closer magazine, Nadiya shared: “Prince Andrew and I also had a little conversation last year and he knew everything about the show; when I was in and when I was out, and who won it. It just blows your mind to think how big this show is,” reports Lancs Live.
Strictly Come Dancing has won over hearts across the nation, counting Queen Camilla and even the late Queen Elizabeth II among its admirers. Still, with rigid royal protocols to follow, we’re hardly expecting them to snag that Glitterball trophy anytime soon, despite Mike Tindall’s jungle stint on I’m A Celebrity in 2022.
In his 2021 Strictly adventure, Dan Walker was twirling alongside Nadiya Bychkova until facing a showdown with AJ Odudu in the dreaded dance-off. Reflecting on his experience in an I News column, he confessed: “It ended up being one of the greatest televisual experiences of my life but, if I’m totally honest, it started out as one of the worst.”
It comes as Prince Andrew’s true feelings were ‘exposed’ as an expert tore apart his Christmas dinner plans. Andrew, 64, allegedly spent Christmas alone at Royal Lodge with his former spouse Sarah Ferguson, instead of joining the rest of his family at Sandringham House.
This meant that Andrew and Sarah, 65, were absent from the traditional walk from Sandringham to St Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas morning. Andrew and Sarah missed the celebrations after the King’s younger brother has been embroiled in negative headlines this year, including his connections to an alleged Chinese “spy” and his ongoing dispute over his future in Royal Lodge.
Vanity Fair Royal Correspondant Katie Nicholl has now criticised Andrew’s “very poor judgement”, suggesting his presence at the Christmas walk would have turned the spotlight away from the senior royals.
She told the Royal Beat: “I hate to say this but along with very poor judgement on Andrew’s part is, he seems hellbent on clinging onto that power that he had as the Duke of York and as a royal player, whether that is representing the family overseas or simply being there at Christmas.
“The fact that his ex-wife, who he lives with at Royal Lodge, which is also a bone of contention because Charles wants him out of Royal Lodge, will be spending it quietly together is the right thing to do. But it shouldn’t take Sarah having to flag it to him.”
