Strictly Come Dancing star Amber Davies has opened up about how she is avoiding the backlash she has faced over her experience as a dancer. The former Love Island winner usually works as a performer in London’s West End theatre district.

Amber, 29, became a last-minute replacement for fellow former Love Islander Dani Dyer when she sustained a significant injury just days before live shows were due to begin. Now Amber has vowed not to pay attention to the negativity that has been directed at her, saying it will only “make me feel c—.”

Amber – who is performing an Argentine Tango on tonight’s show – admitted, “I am doing everything I possibly can to avoid reading anything negative on social media. A lot of people have asked me how I am dealing with the backlash, but, honestly, I refuse to read any comments online. I am not going there.”

She continued to The Sun: “In the past I have gone looking for it and it just makes me feel like crap, so this time around I have to be really mentally strong, but I am putting myself in the Strictly bubble. I do my rehearsals and go home; I don’t read or check anything.

“Because the only thing it’s going to do is knock my confidence. I didn’t want this to be a negative experience, so I told myself, ‘I have to block it out, I really do’.”Amber also confessed: “If I worry about the backlash, there would be too much going on in my mind.”

She has admitted that despite her background as a dancer and studying musical theatre as a teenager, she still finds learning the ballroom routines challenging. She explained how it’s “worlds apart. I studied singing and acting.

“It’s like being a pop singer and being made to sing opera.” She has also stressed that her boyfriend, theatre actor Ben Joyce, has no worries about her performing passionate routines with her Strictly professional dance partner Nikita Kuzmin, 27.

She said: “It’s normal in our industry, I’ve watched him kiss someone else on stage, he has watched me fall in love with somebody on stage. My boyfriend is obsessed with this dance, he thinks it’s the best routine I have done.”

Amber has had regular contact with Dani, 29, since stepping in for her when she fractured her ankle and shared that the experience has been “bittersweet for me. I want her to know that she is so missed on this show.”

Amber added that she “could never replace her in a million years and when she comes back next year stronger I will 100 per cent be voting for her to win.” Amber won Love Island in 2017 alongside her then partner Kem Cetinay.

The pair split in December 2017 just five months after securing the £50,000 Love Island prize money. Amber previously lashed out at her supporters in 2018, demanding they cease discussing her former partner..

She said, “Guys, this is getting so boring and simply irritating now.” She added, “If Kem and I are over the relationship, I think YOU GUYS should be. I am allowed to move on and mostly allowed to be openly happy.”
