Eva Amurri, daughter of Susan Sarandon, is opening up about her journey through breast reduction surgery – giving followers an honest glimpse into her recovery experience. The 40-year-old lifestyle blogger and actress revealed she had the operation earlier this month, a move she said was a long time coming, particularly after facing backlash over the plunging neckline of her wedding dress last year.

Some critics had been “scandalised” by the look – a reaction Eva was quick to shut down at the time. In a series of candid posts to Instagram, the mom-of-three documented her healing process, starting with a mirror selfie taken while she sat cross-legged on the floor, dressed in a green-and-white striped tracksuit and a nude padded bralette.

Eva then offered a practical recovery tip to her followers, sharing a snap of a lightweight water bottle and noting: “If you think you’re going to use your Stanley while you recover, think again! It’s way too heavy to safely hold after breast surgery so I’m using this water bottle with a straw in it.”

Among the biggest challenges she’s faced, the actress said she has been unable to sleep. Eva admitted: “I hate sleeping on my back, so I know these next few weeks are gonna be rough for me with sleeping,” explaining that the specially bought pillows haven’t improved her rest much.

While her doctor has cleared her only for gentle activity for now, Eva is trying to stay moving with daily walks – and some tech help. “I’m not very good at motivating myself with exercise, so I got a Fitbit to help me. So far so good,” she shared.

Another hurdle has been personal grooming. A salon selfie showed her fresh blowdry, which Eva confessed was necessary: “Blow drying my own hair turns out to be an absolute no-go. Lifting my arms and holding the hairdryer is really not good for my healing. I decided to lean in and treat myself to a multi pack of blowouts at a salon I can walk to, and I’m so happy I did.”

As the healing process continues, Eva noted the surprising physical side effects, including “random bruising” that appeared. She reflected: “It’s been strange to see my body bruised, and recovering from trauma. It’s not an easy sight, and it’s definitely brought up a lot for me. I’m looking at these next few weeks as a great opportunity to be kind to myself and nurture myself.”

One of the tougher emotional lessons has been embracing rest. Sharing a quiet moment, Eva admitted: “Resting is harder for me than I realized. I feel a lot of guilt when I’m not doing something that can be seen objectively as productive. This recovery time has been an interesting lens through which to view my own thoughts and feelings about myself and my own value. It’s something I want to keep thinking about.”

Eva initially announced her decision to have surgery on her blog, Happily Eva After, calling it a milestone moment. It was her “first surgery” and the first time she had ever been under general anesthesia.

Before the procedure, Eva explained she wore a size 32F bra and it made her life more difficult. “Having extremely large breasts can not only affect you physically but also mentally. It can make you extremely self-conscious and insecure,” she wrote, detailing the constant back pain, difficulty finding clothes, and the impossibility of simply “taking a break” from the burden. “Having huge boobs has been a blast at times,” she joked.

Motherhood brought even more changes, with Eva noting her breasts had fluctuated significantly, leading to “drooping and sagging.” However, turning 40 gave her the final push she needed. “I realised that I can absolutely do scary things, and most importantly that living how I want to live in my own body is WORTH IT,” she said.

This major life decision comes less than a year after Eva faced immense criticism for her choice of bridal gown – a daring Kim Kassas dress featuring a deep neckline and sheer veil, worn during her 2024 wedding to chef Ian Hock.

Fans on Instagram at the time were not convinced the gown was appropriate as one commented: “Am I the only one focusing elsewhere?” Another said: “This is way too much for a wedding!” Meanwhile, someone else seemed dumbfounded by the frock as they asked: “What in the name of Holy Matrimonial Tatas is going on?”

Eva stood firm against those who suggested her wedding look was inappropriate. In a pointed Instagram post, she wrote alongside a photo with Ian: “And to anyone scandalized by my breasts not being ‘put away’….” She then followed up with a zoomed-in shot of her chest, cheekily adding, “Feel free to screenshot this for later.”

Speaking about her decision to wear the gown, she later told People: “I wanted to feel sexy but elegant, and I think the dress strikes the perfect balance.” She added: “I love how it has a vintage feel and is ultra feminine without being overly pouffy.”
