The teenage driver died after a police chase in Sheffield – we’ll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and video on this breaking news story.

A teenager has died after crashing a car during a police chase.

The 18-year-old was killed when a stolen black Ford Fiesta crashed into a wall on Monday night in the Hyde Park area of Sheffield. Officers were carrying out a “pre-planned operation” when the Ford driver spotted officers, attempted to flee and a chase ensued.

The car then hit a wall. The driver was rushed to hospital but could not be saved, despite medics’ best efforts. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The road was closed for a period of time while officers investigated but has since reopened. The nature of the police operation has not been disclosed, although South Yorkshire Police and other UK forces have run Christmas road safety crackdowns in recent weeks.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident with information, dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in anyone who may have been in the City Road, Park Grange Road, Spring Lane and Northern Avenue areas.”
