Yeimis Daniela Vargas Parra died after she was stabbed twice in a fight with another woman in Cimitarra, Colombia, following reports an argument online escalated
A teenager was stabbed to death in a fight with a rival as prosecutors say they don’t know whether she was attacked in murder or self-defence.
Yeimis Daniela Vargas Parra, 19, was stabbed twice in the chest in the early hours of Saturday morning in Cimitarra, Colombia, after reports the two arranged a knife duel on Facebook following a row. The alleged killer – named as Nicol Alexandra Torres – has since been arrested and bailed as authorities probe the exact circumstances of what happened.
According to reports, the pair had spent hours arguing online before agreeing to meet in the city in Colombia’s Santander Department. In one terrifying exchange, one of the pair reportedly said: “Get here and we’re going to have a f***ing killing.” The other snapped back: “Here I’m waiting for you in Los Pinos. I’m not afraid of you.”
Colombia police have said the pair met in the early hours of 21st September, and that victim Yeimis Daniela Vargas Parra died after being stabbed twice in the chest. Local media in the city reports said she was rushed to San Juan Hospital but died in the ambulance when she was being transferred to a better-equipped medical centre.
Her opponent, named by police as Nicol Alexandra Torres, later turned herself in at a police station with her lawyer. After police quizzed her about the duel, she was allowed to leave while they investigated the killing, according to local media reports.
Police are understood to be studying both girls’ social media posts to work out how the lethal row began. It is currently unclear if prosecutors will treat the case as murder or a justified killing in self-defence.
