Several tower blocks in Kazan, Russia, were hit by Ukrainian “aircraft style drones” as some were hit by powerful missiles, were some were hit in kamikaze attacks
A Russian tower block containing dozens of families explodes under a mass attack from “Ukrainian drones”.
Horrifying footage showed the moment the aircraft-type drone struck the 37-floor Azure Skies elite residential tower in Kazan. Another tower block – the 23-floor Manhattan residential building in central Kazan – was also hit.
Elsewhere, another drone was seen crashing into a third complex, resulting in a massive explosion and fire. Residents were told to evacuate or take cover in basements amid reports suggesting seven drones hit the city in total.
Other videos showed the moment bombs were dropped on the tall buildings, as explosions rang out. The nearest Ukrainian controlled territory is some 670 miles away, meaning if Russian reports saying Lyuti drones – meaning Fierce – were behind the attack, they would be at the maximum of their range.
Kazan is the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan, a region which has led the way in the manufacturing of Russian military drones. The city has a 1.3 million population, and is known as Russia ’s ‘third capital’ after Moscow and St Petersburg.
There were fears of more attacks as air raid sirens sounded, and residents were ordered to remain calm, get warmly dressed and go down to the first floors and basements .
There was no immediate information on casualties from the Kazan strikes. Earlier in attacks on Russia’s Kursk region, five people were killed and 12 wounded in strikes on Rylsk.
Meanwhile, in Rylsk, 33 miles from the Ukrainian border in Kursk region, heavy fighting was underway amid Ukrainian shelling with multiple buildings ablaze. In Kherson, a cancer hospital was ablaze after being struck by a Russian aerial bomb. No casualties were reported but the hospital was ablaze.
Earlier this month NATO fighter jets were scrambled in response to a devastating Russian attack on Ukraine . Vladimir Putin used strategic bombers and modern warplanes to unleash terror on Ukrainian energy and military facilities. The attack also led to major power cuts in the capital Kyiv, plunging civilians into darkness ahead of the festive season.
NATO’s jets were scrambled in Poland and along the Alliance’s eastern flank in response. The offensive had been expected, with Putin warning “a response will follow” after Ukraine attacked Russia with US-supplied ATACMS missiles .
It is unknown if Putin’s fearsome Oreshnik mid-range ballistic missiles were deployed in the attack. The Russian President previously bragged about how the new weapon was so powerful it would make nukes redundant .
