One of the preferred holiday destinations amongst UK tourists, Tenerife in the Canary Islands is a great place to enjoy some winter sun – and it’s also home to the ‘world’s best water park’

Things are about to get pretty grey and dismal in the UK for the next few months, as we are subjected to cold frosts and long nights – along with likely regular doses of rain. Understandably, this leads many Brits to hear the call of winter sun elsewhere and head out of the country for a much-needed hit of Vitamin D.

Tenerife in the Canary Islands has long been a preferred destination amongst UK holidaymakers, and for good reason. From lively nightlife, and stunning black-sand beaches, to unforgettable volcanic scenery – a visit to Tenerife has something for everyone.

The holiday hotspot is also home to the “world’s best water park” and it’s definitely something you don’t want to miss – whether you’re heading there for winter sun in the next few months, or planning your next summer holiday. Siam Park is located in the popular area of Costa Adeje in the southern part of the island and is a day out that the whole family will enjoy.

During the winter, you’ll still be enjoying some lovely weather at the iconic water park, with The Sun reporting that it gets temperatures averaging around 22 degrees Celsius and six hours of sunshine daily. Siam Park opened in 2008, and it’s consistently been a hit with holidaymakers since – reportedly being voted the world’s best water park an impressive nine years on the trot.

The water park boasts the longest lazy river in the world, one kilometre in length, floating down Mai Thai river in 24 degrees Celsius water will give you a great view of the park, with waterfalls, and fast and slow sections all included in the experience, it’s a great way to smooth your way into your day out before you head on to some of the more action-packed rides.

If you’re looking for more of a thrill to get your adrenaline going you have to try out the Kinnaree slide – which The Sun reports has been donned as the second-best European waterslide. If you’re keen to take things up a notch, then head to Tower of Power, which has some seriously steep angles that will get your heart pumping.

Speed junkies should then give Singha a go, which is said to be worldwide one of the fastest waterslides out there, with extreme descents and curves along the way – it’s well worth trying.

If your little ones aren’t quite ready for these more hardcore slides, there is still plenty to do at Siam Park at the Lost City – which has a baby-friendly pool, waterfalls, and slides that are all appropriate for kids.

In the winter a child ticket to the park will set you back around £28 and an adult pass costs £37 for basic entry, but you can splurge more for VIP to get access to “exclusive areas”.
