Sam Asghari was grilled about Britney Spears during this week’s episode of The Traitors US, which has a similar format to the BBC psychological series but features celebrities

Britney Spears’s estranged husband Sam Asghari was grilled about the pop star on The Traitors US this week.

But the 30-year-old model, who was married to Britney for just 14 months until they divorced last year, refused to answer one question from a fellow contestant on the show, which has a similar format to the BBC psychological series but features celebrities rather than members of the public.

Fellow model and The Real Housewives Of Dubai star Chanel Ayan asked Sam: “I love Britney Spears, does Britney Spears watch Housewives?” However, Sam said: “I’m going to keep that to myself.”

The show, intro its third season in the US, sees players divided into the “faithful” and a smaller group of “traitors” – whose goal is to eliminate the other contestants and win up to 250,000 US dollars (£195,785) themselves.

And in this week’s installment, TV personality Robyn Dixon asked Sam: “Sam I have to ask, are you connected to Britney Spears?” as they travelled to The Traitors castle. Sam, who also starred in dark comedy Black Monday, replied: “Yes, we were married for a while,” which led to further questions.

Sam, born in Iran, married Britney in a star-studded ceremony at the US singer’s home in Los Angeles in June 2022 after meeting on the set of the Slumber Party music video in 2016. Their wedding was attended by high-profile celebrities including Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore and Paris Hilton.

Later in The Traitors episode, former wrestler Nikki Garcia and The Bachelor star Gabby Windey told a shocked Carolyn Wiger, of Survivor fame: “That’s Britney’s ex”.

“Sam, in the pink. I first thought he was Davide from Love Island,” Garcia said, referencing Davide Sanclimenti who won the eight season of the ITV show alongside Ekin-Su Culculoglu in 2022.

Also in the episode, the players asked how they would know Lord Ivar Mountbatten – the son of the late Marquess of Milford Haven, who was the first cousin of the late Queen’s husband the Duke of Edinburgh.

“I was born with a very nice last name. Mountbatten. It’s one of the royal family’s surnames. Harry and Meghan’s children are called Mountbatten,” the 61-year-old said.

“The King is my second cousin. I was married to a woman for 17 years, had three kids and then we parted company. And then I married a bloke and because I’ve got a famous last name it was all over the newspapers.”
