British footwear brand Clarks has left me impressed with these new slingback flats, which I can see myself wearing every season this year

Flat shoes are essential for any wardrobe and this year, the effortless footwear remains popular for any occasion, and this includes pointed flats. The best part about these smart shoes is their versatility when it comes to styling – you can match them with suits, dresses, jeans or even jumpsuits.

As a fashion writer, I spotted a pair of pointed-toe flats from Clarks that look as expensive as some from a designer brand. During a weekend shopping trip, I walked into the British footwear store and what quickly caught my eye were these Clarks Sensa 15 Shine Flats, £70.

Crafted with premium black leather for a soft feel, the Sensa flats are very well made and the design screams classic with a contemporary twist. It’s an upgrade from the usual pointed-toe flats you find on the high street as it features two adjustable strap fastening – one at the heel and one across the front with gold-tone buckles.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the £70 price tag – seeing as they look almost as good as the Jimmy Choo Didi Slingback Point-toe Flats, which you need to fork out £650 for.

So, how comfortable are these shoes? The footbed is crafted with a contour cushion to reduce pressure while supporting long hours of standing and walking. I have been wearing them to work and I can attest that there is no break-in needed for these Clarks Sensa flats.

The sole has grip marks to support every step even when it’s pouring outside but having said that, it might be tricky to walk through water or mud. The Clarks Sensa is becoming my go-to footwear style – perfect to wear with black tights as well as with jeans or wide-leg trousers when the weather gets warmer.

They have a very manageable heel height of 15mm but I love how the pointed toe design elongates my body.

The Clarks Sensa 15, £70, also comes in metallic champagne-gold and red in crocodile print while the smooth black leather version is currently on sale and reduced to £28.

Other than Clarks, Schuh Lorella Point Shoes feature a shiny faux-leather upper and studded details on the straps, and they’re available at Next for £38. ASOS Design Leonora Slingback Ballet, £28, in burgundy is another option if black is not your go-to colour, with a buckle at the ankle.
