If you love vanilla scents you’re going to want to check out this new fragrance find, which has become an immediate new favourite for our beauty editor Laura Mulley
Gourmand fragrances and vanilla scents are hugely popular at the moment, and I’ve found a surprising new favourite to add to our list of the best vanilla perfumes.
Viral fragrance brand Phlur – whose previous perfume hits include Missing Person and Father Figure – already makes one brilliant vanilla-based scent, Vanilla Skin. However, those that love smoky, woody fragrances should definitely get a sniff of its latest launch: Vanilla Smoke Hair & Body Fragrance Mist, a rich yet comforting concoction that I’m totally smitten with – and, with prices starting at £25, it’s cheaper than a lot of other perfumes.

Phlur Vanilla Smoke describes itself as ‘a sultry, sweet scent’ and features top notes of bergamot, pink pepper and birch, cosy heart notes of cacao blanc, cashmere vanilla and tonka bean, and lingering base notes of incense, Peru balsam and amber. It’s suitable for use from top to toe, on the hair and body, and is available in 88.7ml and 238.5ml bottles exclusively at Space NK.
As someone who loves both vanilla and smoky scents, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this, and I wasn’t disappointed; it’s utterly addictive. Surprisingly, though, I think the smoke notes come through stronger than the vanilla ones, with distinctive hints of marshmallows toasting on a cosy campfire.
I’ve had a number of compliments on it already, and it’s already become a staple on my desk, where I’ll reach for it to spritz on regularly through the day.
It’s worth noting, however, that, as it’s a body mist, it doesn’t last as long as an eau de toilette or an eau de parfum – but, at £25, that’s reflected in the price.
Despite only just launching, shoppers have clearly been impressed too. Writing on the Space NK website, one person enthusiastically wrote: “Love the smell! Get so many compliments of this also! Have already purchased more of this brand! Really really good! Would really recommend this to a friend! It is so so so good! Love this and the vanilla skin!”
Another agreed, writing: “I am absolutely in love with Phlur Vanilla Smoke Body Mist! This scent is an irresistible blend of warm, sweet vanilla with a smoky, rich depth that feels both cozy and sophisticated. If you’re looking for a vanilla scent that does last a little longer, Tom Ford’s Vanille Fatale Eau de Parfum, £290, is a classic, while Ariana Grande Cloud EDP Spray, currently reduced from £30 to £25.45, is a cheaper alternative.
