If you’re looking for a Christmas day outfit that’s easy to throw on, is comfy and flattering and still feels festive, then I’ve found the perfect sequin top for the job

When it comes to the festive season, I tend to get a little bit fashion fatigued. There’s only so many dresses and sparkles and jumpsuits I can wear before I’m desperate for a cosy jumper and some leggings.

But when the events keep coming, finding something that creates an instant wow factor in seconds is a wardrobe essential, which is why this £75 Belinda Bow Sequin Jacket from Monsoon has become my saviour for Christmas Day. It has the same comfort levels as a regular top or cardigan, and it adds an instant festive feel to a simple outfit with minimal effort required.

Although it’s touted as a jacket, you can just as easily wear it on its own as a top if you want to bare a little skin whilst still being covered up. The satin bow fastenings down the front are easy to adjust, so you can tie them as tight or as loosely as you want to get more coverage.

Unlike most sequin tops it isn’t scratchy thanks to a thick lining, which helps protect your skin from the rough sequin-covered material. The Belinda Bow Sequin Jacket also has some stretch to it which makes it comfortable to wear for hours on end.

The cut is also incredibly flattering, with the hem landed right on your waist to accentuate your figure. However it still gives enough coverage that you don’t need to worry about anything popping out the bottom, which I’m sure you’ll agree is always important.

It’s only fault is that I found the sequins caught on each other under the arms occasionally. However as anyone who wears sequins knows, this comes with the territory, and they can be quickly untangled in seconds.

How to style it

My personal favourite way of wearing the Belinda Bow Sequin Jacket is on its own with a pair of high waisted jeans and some ankle boots. It gives the perfect laid back, slightly edgy look whilst still being comfortable and Christmassy.

However you could just as easily wear it with a satin midi skirt or a pair of wide leg trousers to maximise comfort and style. To make a real statement, try pairing it with a black sequin mini skirt for a top-to-toe sparkly look.

It also makes a gorgeous jacket that can be worn over a satin midi dress or simple jumper and jeans to help give you some added sparkle that can be easily whipped off when you get too hot. It looks just as good layered up as it does on its own, and its classic black colour means you can wear it all year round, not just at Christmas.

Where to buy

You can currently pick up the Belinda Bow Sequin Jacket directly from the Monsoon website, which has the most size still in stock, with a medium to a XXL still available. However you can also buy it from other retailers like Debenhams and JD Williams , although they currently have more limited sizes available. For reference, I’m wearing a size medium and usually wear a 12 or 14 on top, and I found it fit perfectly.

Shoppers have also been sharing in my love for the Belinda Bow Sequin Jacket, with one saying: “Love the fit! The structure of this jacket is so flattering! Can’t wait to wear it on Christmas day.”

Another wrote: “Brilliant showstopper jacket” before adding: “This jacket is amazing! The jacket is so light but the quality is so fantastic I can dress it up or down. Lots of compliments when I wear and very comfortable. A great investment piece”

One did add: “Lovely jacket, good fit on the body but for me slightly too short in the arms. Kept as really liked it and washes well.”

The Belinda Bow Sequin Jacket is a true investment piece, but if your budget isn’t quite reaching its £75 price tag, I did find some other options on the high street. At ASOS you can get the Gina Tricot Sequin Top with Tie-Front Bow Detail in Black for £40, whilst River Island has a cosier option with the £45 Black Sequin Bow Cardigan.
