TV writer Jake Hackney has found a way to get a pair of Apple’s AirPods 4 for £1 in the January sales – here’s how
With the January sales well and truly in full swing, many of us will be on the lookout for the best deals on Top Tech. We all know that Apple is one of the most sought-after tech brands, and even when discounted its products can come with a hefty price tag.
But a rare deal has just caught our eye that allows shoppers to bag a pair of the brand’s latest earbuds for £1. It comes thanks to O2’s January sale, which is offering a set of Apple AirPods 4 for £1 when buying an iPhone 16.
The deal is available with the iPhone 16 128GB on O2’s 36-month Classic Plan, which also comes with an enticing £144 discount. Once bought shoppers can then claim the AirPods 4 for the bargain price.

Time is ticking to snap up this offer though before it ends on Wednesday, January 15. O2’s Classic Plan comes in at £54.21 per month – £4 off the usual monthly price – and includes unlimited minutes, texts and 5G data.
There’s also a £30 upfront payment and it’s worth noting that, like most providers, O2 plans to increase its prices in April, with this contract rising to £56.01 per month.
As well as saving £128 on a pair of new AirPods, you can get three months of Disney+ or Amazon Prime for free as an inclusive extra. O2’s Classic Plan also includes EU roaming as standard in 49 European destinations, with members able to use their texts, calls and up to 25GB data at no extra cost, so it’s worth considering this plan if you travel regularly.
However, although the chance to save £128 on Apple’s AirPods is undoubtedly a good deal, this O2 package isn’t the cheapest on the market, so it’s worth checking out some other options. Over at Sky Mobile, the iPhone 16 is available for £24 when paired with one of the provider’s data plans, many of which are currently half price for six months.
Plans range from £5 for 3GB all the way to £25 for unlimited, with the £10 50GB plan a great middle-of-the-road option. While Sky isn’t offering £1 AirPods, its plans work out cheaper than O2 over the length of the 36-month contract – Sky also lets you upgrade your phone for free after 24 months.
It’s advisable to check your current usage before choosing a data plan, as many of us use much less than we think. As someone who spent three years working in a phone shop, I can say from experience that many customers insist on having a contract with unlimited data when in fact they use just a few gigabytes.
With this in mind, I’d always recommend checking your average usage so you can ensure you’re not paying over the odds for a large amount of data when you could be saving money with a smaller allowance. You can save yourself even more money by buying the phone outright and opting for a sim-only plan like the half price 50GB contract at Sky Mobile.
The iPhone 16 is available from a range of retailers including Amazon and Very, which are offering it for £749, down from £799.
