Sky rarely switches up its TV plans but this week the provider unveiled a brand new plan – priced at a more affordable £15 per month our TV and Tech team

As the days before Christmas seem to fly by before we know it many of our evenings will consist of being bundled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate infront of our favourite Christmas film. In a new move from Sky, the provider has finally switched up its TV packages by adding a completely new plan to its site.

As a TV and Tech Team who regularly flick through the worthy deals a standout plan from Sky has been in Stream, TV, and Netflix plan offering a bit of everything for viewers, but bar from a few welcomed price drops (like Black Friday’s recent £19 per month offer) what you get inside rarely changes…until now as today’s Top Tech series points out.

This week Sky launched a brand new Essential TV Plan, and priced at £15 per month it offers up films, series, and channel flicking for a more reasonable price.

What are Sky’s new TV plans all about?

Our TV writer Jake Hackney has all the details. Sky has unveiled a handful of new TV bundles that should suit any prospective subscriber, whether you’re into movies, sports, or just want to watch the latest series that everyone’s talking about.

It’s also reduced its prices quite dramatically, with the new plans costing even less than in the latest Black Friday sale. Sky’s new entry level package is the £15 per month Essential TV bundle, which comes with more than 100 channels including Sky Atlantic – the home of blockbusters like The Day of the Jackal and The Penguin – plus subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+.

A Netflix Standard with Ads subscription usually costs £4.99 when signing up direct, so with this Sky plan you’re essentially paying £10 per month for loads of Sky channels and Discovery+. It’s worth noting that this plan doesn’t include every Sky channel, with the likes of Sky Max, Sky Comedy and Sky Documentaries among the more than 140 channels on the more premium Ultimate TV bundle at £22 per month.

There’s also the Essential TV and Sky Cinema bundle which, for £25 per month, includes all the same benefits as the standard Essential TV bundle but with more than 1,000 films on-demand with Sky Cinema. Sky says its Cinema channels have ‘more of the latest blockbusters than anywhere else’, making it the ideal option for kicking back with the latest epics over Christmas.

Among the new releases premiering in December are Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Kung Fu Panda 4 and A Quiet Place: Day One, but there’s also a host of festive favourites like Elf, Love Actually, The Polar Express, The Holiday and It’s a Wonderful Life, to name a few. What’s more, Sky Cinema members also get a Paramount+ subscription and two Vue cinema tickets every month at no extra cost.

But if you prefer to catch the latest sports, you may want to opt for the new £35 per month Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which includes nine dedicated sports channels including Sky Sports Football, Sky Sports F1 and Sky Sports Golf. But while Sky boasts more than 500 live football games including what it says are the ‘biggest Premier League games every weekend’, the broadcaster doesn’t air every single match.

This year, the Boxing Day round of fixtures will be streaming exclusively on Amazon’s Prime Video, which you can watch free with an Amazon Prime subscription or by signing up for an Amazon Prime 30-day free trial. But whichever Sky TV bundle you go for, there is the option to mix and match, so you can add Sky Sports channels to the Cinema bundle and vice versa, giving you the best of both worlds.

Sky Mobile data deal makes Christmas mobile splurge more affordable

When we say affordable it goes without saying that this comes with a huge pinch of salt – this of course will vary between shoppers, as a tech team splitting the cost across a monthly plan is often the preferred way for budget conscious shoppers as you don’t have to fork out all at once.

Our Tech Commerce Editor Harriet Morphy-Morris has explained why Sky Mobile’s ongoing data deal is one to look at when shopping for a mobile this festive season. Opting for a pay-per-month mobile plan has the perk of a more affordable cost per month, with the known downside that over time it works out more expensive – however, it means you don’t have to fork out £799 on the new iPhone 16 all at once.

And the providers Black Friday data deal is still around, on until this December 18, those with a fancy phone on their Christmas list (or those buying one we should say) will be able to spread the cost and the add-on data plans are a huge part of this.

Skys 100GB plan is reduced to a cheaper £15 per month while its 50GB data plan is a cheaper £10 monthly – and you can pair with your chosen flagship mobile. With iPhone 16 Pro Max from £38 per month, the Google Pixel from £31 per month, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE from £22 per month.

A downside to Sky’s plans, which we’ve mentioned before, is the three year commitment to the plans – despite being able to pick a swithc after 12 or 24 month plan shoppers are commited to the contact for three years. If lengthy plans aren’t for you then there are alternatives, as giffgaff and SMARTY prove – the latter of which is offering 80GB of data for £10.
