A 12-year-old girl “whose bright energy was boundless” has tragically died in an e-scooter crash with a car.

Summah Richards is understood to have fallen into the path of a car in the town of Laidley, Queensland around 3pm last Saturday. Police are now investigating the tragedy and it said the incident happened on Vaux Street with the e-scooter appearing to fall into the path of a grey Holden Barina.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite the best efforts of paramedics Summah was declared dead at the scene. Stacey Ardrey, the best friend of Summah’s mother Teigan, has remembered Summah as “a remarkable young girl with such a vibrant spirit”.

“Summah was the kind of soul who could light up any room simply by being in it,” she said in a fundraiser for the family. Her playful nature was contagious, always ready to laugh, and bring joy to those around her.

“Whether she was popping up from behind a corner which she did often and with a mischievous grin or throwing herself into an adventure with pure excitement, Summah’s bright energy was boundless.”

The youngster was only in the first year of high school but had ambitions of being a nurse one day. “Her love wasn’t just seen, it was felt. With her big brown eyes, full of wonder and kindness, she made everyone feel special,” continued Stacey on the GoFundMe page.

“She had a heart that cared deeply, always looking out for others with a tenderness beyond her years. Summah’s ability to show love so freely and authentically left a lasting impact on all who were lucky enough to know her.

“Her infectious smile and the warmth of her spirit will forever be remembered—she will always be the playful, loving soul who brought light into every room.

“Summah sweet angel, you will forever be remembered and felt in our hearts. Your wild sense of humour will be missed but never forgotten. A mother’s love will never end.”

The statement from Queensland Police on the tragedy read: “The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a 12-year-old girl died following a vehicle and e-scooter crash in Laidley this afternoon, April 19.

“Initial investigations indicate that both vehicles were travelling south on Vaux Street and around 3pm the rider of the scooter has fallen into the path of a grey Holden Barina on Vaux Street. The rider of the scooter, a 12-year-old Laidley girl, was declared deceased at the scene.
