Trent Alexander-Arnold had the perfect response to boos and heckles from Manchester United fans, leaving Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah chuckling away after their 3-0 win

Trent Alexander-Arnold gave Manchester United fans another reminder of the score after he was booed while heading to the Liverpool bus.

The right-back played his part in a convincing 3-0 victory for Arne Slot’s side away at their fierce rivals. He thought he’d opened the scoring inside 10 minutes after converting Luis Diaz’s cross, but an offside in the build-up scuppered his Steven Gerrard-esque kiss to the camera celebration.

However, it proved to be only a brief reprieve for United, with a Diaz brace giving the visitors a deserved lead heading into the break and Mohamed Salah adding a third after the restart. It was another embarrassing day for Red Devils fans.

Some of them gathered outside Old Trafford post-match and waited for the Liverpool players to emerge. Alexander-Arnold was one of the first to board their transport back to Merseyside.

A clip shared on social media showed him receiving a frosty reception, with loud boos and heckles being heard in the background. In response, he held up three fingers – just as he had done to the away end on the pitch after full-time.

The gesture brought about a laugh from team-mate Salah, who had been walking ahead of him but turned back to keep him moving. The pair grinned their way to the bus, with Alexander-Arnold continuing to eyeball the United supporters.

A member of Liverpool’s security staff got in between them and the crowd, who were watching on from behind a barrier, just in case there was any trouble. Alexander-Arnold was unfazed, though, as he embraced the wind-up merchant role.

It wasn’t the perfect afternoon for him having been substituted by Slot for the third game running, which he didn’t look happy about. The new Reds boss was seen turning away in frustration after he’d lost possession in the match, as spotted by Sky Sports co-commentator Jamie Carragher.

The Liverpool legend said: “That’s an interesting one, I was looking at the managers beneath on the last attack, and I think it was Trent Alexander-Arnold, tried a flick round the corner with his left foot.

“The frustration, looking down at him [Slot] – turned away in disgust. There the things that he doesn’t want, he wants you to make the extra pass, not risk something. There’s maybe some differences we’ll see between his Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s.”
