An ex-pat living in Tenerife has revealed exactly how busy the island gets during December and has shared a video to show the true situation as Brits book their winter breaks

A Brit abroad in winter tourist hotspot Tenerife has shared evidence of what the island is really like at the moment, including how hot it is. Summer seems like a distant memory thanks to an autumn of gales, storms and heavy rain that have battered Britain. With the stress and craziness of Christmas ahead and a long hard winter to look forward to the other side, the feeling of sun on skin feels like an impossible dream.

Those lucky enough to be able to afford a festive or winter break in warmer climes will have no doubt been checking the seasonal temperatures of the top holiday destinations and doing their research on how busy resorts get. No one wants to spend hard earned cash jetting off to a ghost town that is flooded after all. Online information is largely based on average statistics and tourist operator overviews which can make it difficult to get a true and timely picture.

One expat in Tenerife has revealed what the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands is actually like in December. The car rental owner has lived on the island for 10 years and said he keeps being asked exactly how busy it is there, so he decided to share a video to reveal the truth. Posting on TikTok as Theknightstrider1 he filmed the view as he walked along the beachside promenade at Playa de Las Vistas between Las Americas and Los Cristianos. Viewers could see the tiled path lined with hotels, shops and restaurants one side and palm trees the other. Revealing just one tiny whisp of a cloud in the blue sky, there were people walking along in shorts, T-shirts and sunglasses as he provided his commentary.

“I would say Tenerife at the moment is definitely busier than last year and very, very vibrant,” he said as he gave an example of what the crowds were like: “Just struggled to get a taxi there on the Golden Mile so I’m walking home. I couldn’t get a taxi, that’s how busy the taxis are,” he added.

He also explained what the situation was like for those wanting to eat out. “The bars, restaurants – all very vibrant. The beginning of December historically used to be a bit quieter but it’s actually very vibrant and busy. So in terms of crowd levels – steady. So if you are interested in particular bars / restaurants I would make a reservation if there’s a particular restaurant you want to go to and you’re going to be eating at peak time between seven and 10pm. Make sure you make a reservation just to be on the safe side,” he advised prospective tourists, adding: “They do get busy – the bars and restaurants – especially in the winter.”

As he reached the entrance to the beach he showed the “gorgeous views” of the black sand and calm waters of the ocean as the sun was beginning to set. He revealed that it was 6pm so people were leaving the beach, although there were still a few lounging on the sunbeds soaking up the last rays of the evening sun.

In the comments of his post a fan asked if they would need a coat at night and another user revealed they had just got home and didn’t need one because the temperature was around 25 degrees. Another user added: “Here now not cold at all and boiling hot in the days.”
