A beach in Devon has been dubbed a “perfect off-grid getaway” and likened to a stunning seaside spot in the South of France. According to holiday firm, both destinations offer an idyllic retreat. Travel experts suggest that if you can’t make it to Calanque d’En-Vau, near Marseille, Barricane Beach is your next best bet.

Visit Devon praises this charming cove near Woolacombe as a top spot for rock pooling and a favourite among surfers. The comparison was made by holidaycottages.co.uk as part of their research into short-break options for those seeking a slice of Mediterranean, Caribbean, or South African beach life without leaving the UK, reports Devon Live.

They believe it’s the ideal way to “soak up the seaside atmosphere and unwind without having to even board a plane”.

They said: “Much like Calanque d’En-Vau, a famous and picturesque rocky inlet between Cassis and Marseille in the South of France, Barricane Beach in Devon is the perfect off-grid getaway.”

“Known for its dramatic rocky landscapes, clear waters, and remote access, it’s also a great spot for those who love hiking.

“It features a café that serves homemade Sri Lankan curry throughout summer making it a wonderful place for a refreshing sea dip, a delightful dinner, and a stunning sunset.”

Shannon Keary, Digital PR manager at holidaycottages.co.uk, has highlighted the UK’s own coastal gems, saying: “For many people, summer brings the temptation of a beach holiday, however, travel enthusiasts don’t have to travel internationally to experience crystal-clear waters and beautiful sandy beaches hidden between towering cliffs as there are many comparable spots in the UK.”

She also added a tip for travellers: “If you’re looking to spend a few days at these beautiful locations, don’t forget to take a look at our coastal cottages for the perfect stay.”
