The UK is home to some of the most stunning beaches in the world – and Scotland is no exception, with one island beach being named the ‘most beautiful’ in the country
A gorgeous island paradise has clinched the title of Scotland’s “most beautiful” beach.
Forget about sunbathing season; as November ushers in chillier days, you might think hitting the beach is off the cards. But in truth, it’s the perfect time to explore Scotland’s stunning shores minus the summertime throngs.
With winter on the horizon, the savvy folks over at Scotlands Wild Tours have curated a round-up of the top 10 most awe-inspiring Scottish strands. Whether you’re after an out-of-the-way cove or a seaside spot a stone’s throw from home, there’s surely one that’ll catch your eye.
Topping their chart is none other than Scarista Beach on the Isle of Lewis. Gazing out onto the vast Atlantic, this beach boasts epic breakers that crown it one of Scotland’s prime surf spots.
But that’s not all Scarista Beach doubles as the ideal locale for a tranquil stroll, particularly as the year wanes and the tourist trickle dries up. And don’t forget your four-legged pal; it’s pooch-friendly so your dog can join in on the jaunt, reports the Daily Record.
The tour agency enthuses: “The soft golden sands stretch out along the coast line, and the vivid blue waters are as clear as day. This beach is often a lot quieter than others on the Isle of Harris due to its more secluded location.”
Scotland’s hidden gems have been revealed, with the tour operator Scotland’s Wild Tours crowning the picturesque Clachtoll Beach in the Highlands as the country’s “most beautiful” beach.
“It is still a very accessible beach, but you need to take a short walk down paths and grassland from the main road to get to it. No matter the weather, this beach is a beautiful sight, and great for a relaxing stroll or swim! “.
In second place is Calgary Bay on the Isle of Mull, praised for its “low surrounding hills” and “scenic machair that sits behind the sands”. The beach’s unique calcium-rich sandy soil also supports a diverse range of flora.
Other standout island beaches include Luskentyre Beach on the Isle of Harris and the Isle of Skye’s Coral Beach, while Lunan Bay in Montrose is among the top picks on the mainland.
