Looking for some staycation inspiration for when the weather warms up? This gem of a seaside resort needs to be added to your bucket list immediately – especially if you’re a fan of walking
Dreaming of your next holiday already? If the snowy weather has got you bogged down, find solace in the fact that there are only 73 days until spring. The weather will start to warm, and our days are already becoming a little longer.
If jetting off to sunny Spain over the Easter holidays doesn’t seem affordable amid the cost-of-living crisis, a staycation may be on the cards. Most Brits under appreciate the beauty and diversity of their own country, but you can have an amazing weekend away with your family without travelling abroad.
Of course, you won’t be able to make use of duty free shopping and the UK weather is somewhat unpredictable no matter what season we’re in, but there are still golden sandy beaches, blue waters, and stunning walks up and down the nation – especially in the English Riviera.
Paignton has been described as ‘one of the brightest jewels in the English Riviera’s crown’ and is an ideal destination for walkers. Located in Devon, the ‘compact’ seaside resort boasts a long stretch of beautiful and easily accessible beachfront, promenade, traditional pier, and colourful beach huts. The town centre and high-street shops are all within close proximity, making it an ideal spot for parents taking prams, or those in wheelchairs.
“A great family friendly resort, Paignton is full of attractions and activities the kids will love,” said English Riviera. “With huge expanses of rich red sand, Paignton and Preston beaches are great for beach days all year round – great for sandcastles, swimming and rockpooling. Paignton Attractions include Paignton Zoo, Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway, Vue Cinema, Splashdown Quaywest and so much more.”
For those wanting to get their step count up, even while on holiday, Paignton is one of the most ‘walkable’ cities in the UK. You can stroll for miles on the South Coast path, enjoying scenic views all the way to Brixham or Torquay. It’s no wonder the town is popular with dog owners, as there are so many walks on your doorstep.

This is based on two people sharing a double bed on Friday, April 4-6. A more luxurious holiday flat, featuring two bedrooms and a kitchen, costs £1,109 on the same dates.
