The UK is set for more freezing weather in February with maps showing that only a few areas are expected to miss a massive wall of snow and rain sweeping the country

Brits are set for more wintry showers next month with maps showing a 500-mile wall of snow and rain set to hit.

The UK has been battered by freezing conditions and ferocious storms this month but looking ahead to February and there appears to be no let up with more Arctic weather.

People have not yet recovered from the effects of Storms Eowyn and Herminia but we are now facing another low pressure coming in from the Atlantic and mixed with Arctic air it will lead to snow and sub-zero temperatures for the end of this week.

And looking further ahead, new weather maps from WXCharts show the vast majority of the UK turning dramatic shades of blue, green, purple and even red as it braces for yet more rainy and snowy weather from February 11.

Very few areas of the UK will be lucky enough to escape this latest bout of wet weather. Most of England is set for several millimetres of rain per hour, while the north of England and Scotland will also see flurries several centimetres deep. While the Scottish Highlands is predicted to have up to 21 centimetres of snow.

A large area of northern England – stretching from north of Manchester and including Newcastle – and up to Edinburgh in Scotland – is predicted to see snow with some areas getting 10 centimetres. Some central regions of Scotland will see as much as 15 centimetres. At the same time large areas of England as well as the northwest of Wales are set to see several millimetres of rain per hour.

Only a curved band stretching from the north of wales to the south – not including Cardiff or Snowdonia – will escape this storm patch of weather, as well as the very tip of Cornwall by St Ives and Land’s End. The entirety of Northern Ireland will also need to brace for wet weather, with some centimetres of snow in the northwest of the region.

The Met Office ’s long-range weather forecast for February 11 through to February 25 reads: “Some periods of unsettled weather are likely at first bringing spells of rain and strong winds, mainly across the north of the UK but also spreading further south at times.

“Toward late February, drier, more settled conditions could develop more widely again, particularly in the south but perhaps spreading further north at times. Temperatures probably close to average overall, but some milder spells are likely – especially in the north.”
