The Seaside Heritage Network has now announced its Bucket and Spade List of the Top Ten favourite seaside places and experiences

The UK, boasting over 1,500 beaches, is a haven for both serenity seekers and thrill-seekers, with some spots remaining pristine while others have evolved into hubs of excitement with piers and arcades.

The Seaside Heritage Network has just unveiled its Bucket and Spade List, featuring the public’s top ten seaside favourites, with one “quintessentially seaside” spot clinching the coveted number one position.

Topping the list is New Palace and Adventureland in New Brighton. David Wilkie, the proud owner and manager, expressed his delight, he said: “All the fun of the fair is one phrase that reflects the Wilkie family’s commitment and dedication to providing New Brighton with an unforgettable attraction.

“To be awarded first place in the Seaside Heritage Network Bucket and Spade list is the icing on the cake – not only for the resort’s tourism – past, present and future – but for all the generations who have taken the Palace to their hearts.”

Enthusiastic voters shared their love for the attraction, with one saying: “I have been visiting the New Palace since I was five and now take my grandchildren who love it, the building is iconic and very little has changed in 65 years it is part of New Brighton’s heritage.”

Another reminisced: “From an era when New Brighton was the place to be seen. It has everything quintessentially seaside, amusements, ice cream, beach ware, cafes, candyfloss.”

Second place went to Ventnor Paddling Pool in the Isle of Wight. Admirers consistently praised its enduring appeal over the decades, reports the Express.

A fan fondly recalled: “I first enjoyed this pool in the 60s and it is still as popular as ever. Free and well used whatever the weather with Ventnor beach just yards away.”

Another added: “It’s so place specific and gives everyone who sees it or better still paddles in it a sense of local geography that jogs memories.”
