A new study has listed the UK’s top 10 most affluent small towns and villages, with some having more than 850 millionaires living in them – but shockingly only two are located in the north
New research has revealed the UK’s richest towns and the results are shocking.
London-based global wealth consultancy WealthInsight has revealed the locations of all the most affluent small towns and villages across the UK, but according to the new research there are only two are located in the north of the country that are on the rich list. The study reveals that one of the richest towns is Windsor, which has over ‘850 millionaires’ located within it, closely followed by Weybridge which has an incredible 800 millionaires residing there. The researchers revealed that for the basis of the study, the term ‘millionaires’ refers to ‘individuals with net assets of US$1 million or more excluding their primary residences’.
So, where are the UK’s wealthiest small towns and villages? According to the study, after Windsor and Weybridge, Sevenoaks is next in line as having the UK’s wealthiest residents, with 800 millionaires residing there. Beaconsfield has 450 millionaires, Henley on Thames has 400 millionaires, and Marlow has 350 millionaires. The list also includes Hale, Alderley Edge, and Bray which all have 300 millionaires, and Ascot (including Sunninghill), which has 250 millionaires.
WealthInsight analyst Andrew Amolis said: “Towns in the London commuter belt dominate the top 10, although it is interesting to see that a couple small towns around Manchester also make the list. This reflects the affluent nature of the Cheshire area.” He adds that Henley is the ‘fastest growing town on the list’ with its number of millionaires rising by 25 percent between 2007 and 2021. When compared with the general UK millionaire numbers, which declined by around nine percent during this period, you can clearly see how much this area’s wealth is increasing.
Andrew explained: “Beaconsfield’s high ranking is unsurprising as it has the highest average house price outside of London (over US$750,000 per home). It also has the highest average income per household of US$110,000.” When it comes to the most affluent town in the North West, he revealed that Alderley Edge has the winning spot.
He also explained that there were a number of towns that ‘narrowly missed out on the top 10’ and that these towns included Burford, Chipping Campden, Dartmouth, Ilkley, Leatherhead, Lyndhurst, Pangbourne, Ponteland, Virginia Water and Windermere, with these towns each having 200 millionaires.
