With sunny days finally here and flowers starting to bloom, now is the best time of the year for outdoor fans who love their gardens. But, depending on which way gardens face, they can get lots of sunshine, or not so much, with the position of the shade often changing throughout the day.
Depending on preferences, it can get a bit much for some and hamper the enjoyment of sitting with a morning cuppa while watching the fruits of your gardening labour grow. Shoppers on the hunt for a bit more shade, and a stylish addition to their outdoor space, might find joy with a pergola, with one sold on Debenhams picking up some great reviews.
The Outsunny 4×3(m) Metal Pergola is priced at £219.99 and currently discounted from £329.99 – a saving of 33%. It has the advantage of having a retractable canopy, making it perfect to adjust depending on shade preferences.

The canopy has a UV-resistant coating for safety in the sun, while if you’re concerned about the structure deteriorating quickly, the metal frame has a solid structure thanks to a powder coating for extra strength.
The downside of pergolas is they do adopt a somewhat semi-permanent home in gardens, so those who prefer to only have a structure there on a temporary basis are better off opting for a gazebo. There are lots of affordable options out there, including from Argos, where the Home 3m x 3m Pop up Garden Gazebo is priced at £110.
That’s averaged 4 stars out of five with buyers praising it for being “very easy to put up”, though one did point out “rain gathered on the top and the frame snapped.”
Wowcher also stocks a smaller 3x2m Outsunny retractable garden pergola that’s a bit cheaper at £139. That comes with two colour options, though do be mindful that delivery is from £38.99, so don’t let that come as an unwelcome surprise at the checkout.
Speaking of the Outsunny pergola, one reviewer said: “Took four of us to put it together, very sturdy, looks amazing.” Posting on Aosom, another said of the pergola: “Easy to order, fast delivery and helpful delivery driver. Price was best on (the) internet. This will be a great addition to our garden.”
Another added: “Fast delivery and quality product, much cheaper than other stores.”
Despite the positive feedback, one buyer awarded four stars while pointing out a couple of issues. They said: “No problems to date, needs at least two to assemble, some washers missing and (the) magnet to hold (the) cover open does not work (have to tie in place).”
