A vet nurse has shared the one dog breed that scares her most – explaining why this breed leaves her feeling “uneasy” despite its popularity

A vet nurse has revealed the dog breed that scares her most – and it’s not one you’d expect. Forget Rottweilers or German Shepherds; the breed that leaves her most unnerved is the Border Collie.

In a TikTok video shared by @eve_the_veterinary_nurse, she explained why the clever and energetic Border Collie makes her uneasy. “What breed of dog scared me as a vet nurse? This answer for me is so easy. Is it a staffie? Absolutely not. No, they are just potatoes, they are just cute and lovely. German Shepherds, Rottweilers, no absolutely not.” Surprising many, Eve revealed, “It’s a Border Collie, and you can’t tell me otherwise.” One person commented on the video: “Had the most beautiful, loyal, highly intelligent border collie growing up, never knew a dog like him before or since he was like a human, BUT he did absolutely hate the vet.”

Eve’s fear comes from the breed’s intelligence and fast reflexes. She explained: “They unnerve me. Why would a Border Collie be scared of me? They will literally go head to head with a cow. Not only that, they are so clever. They outwit you straight away.”

Another person commented: “YES! I worked in at a farm vet years ago and nobody believes me to this day that that was our number 1 breed PTS for behavioural problems/aggression.” Whilst a third person commented: “The problem is a lot of people have no business owning them, & don’t understand the breed.” Who Eve replied to and agreed with.

The vet nurse went on to describe how Border Collies can turn from sweet to feisty in an instant. “The tolerance level is like this,” she said, pinching her fingers together in the video. She mentions that there is little room to make an error with these dogs because they will nip you if they have to. Despite her reservations, Eve acknowledged that not all Border Collies are like this. “Now, if you have a lovely Border Collie, that is the nicest dog you’ve ever met in your life. They are just so cute. But the other Border Collies, they are unhinged.”

She recalled a recent experience with an excitable Border Collie that made her nervous. “I had a Border Collie the other night, I took it out for a wee, it was running around in circles around me and then running at my feet, trying to get me back inside, it was making me nervous.” Eve also highlighted how challenging it can be to get a Border Collie to do what you want. “Try and get a Border Collie to do something that they don’t want to do. They are 10 steps ahead of you.” She added: “I feel like I need cat-like reflexes because they can be so lovely, but you can do one little thing they don’t like, and they are so nimble and fast, and then they can nip you.”

As a veterinary nurse Eve says this doesn’t mean she doesn’t like Border Collies but admits they’re not the easiest breed to manage. She said: “I don’t dislike Border Collies, I don’t treat any breeds any differently, but if one made me feel a bit more uneasy than the rest, it would be Border Collies.”
