With just 9 days to go until the General Election, The Mirror’s poll shows even Conservative voters feel key services are in decline after the Tories’ 14-year period in No10
Voters overwhelmingly believe the state of key public services and the UK’s reputation abroad has got worse under 14 years of Tory rule.
With just 9 days to go until the General Election our poll shows even Conservative voters feel key services are in decline. The survey by Whitestone Insight shows a massive 71% of people believe the NHS has got worse under 14 years of the Tories – compared to just 5% who said it had got better.
The crisis-hit health service is currently grappling with record waiting lists and has been repeatedly raised as a key issue among voters at this election.
The poll shows almost half – 48% – believe crime has got worse and 65% say the UK’s reputation abroad has taken a hit under successive Conservative governments.
After last year’s concrete crisis in schools, 42% of voters say the quality of schools is in decline while just 7% say they have improved. Almost 9 in 10 say the cost of essentials has increased.
A further 75% believe potholes had got worse while 46% say the quality of rail and bus transport services had declined since 2010. The survey also shows 43% of voters believe the community spirit in their area is now worse.

The poll comes as the Tories fear being ousted from Government next week with polls repeatedly suggesting Keir Starmer’s Labour is on course for a landslide victory. Last week The Mirror’s survey found Labour had a massive 20-point lead over the Conservatives – who were also overtaken by Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party.
Lachlan Rurlander, a consultant at Whitestone Insight said: “This poll shows that voters have completely written off the Conservatives. Even on measures where one might be able to argue there has been material improvement, such as crime levels outside London and national education standards, respondents still perceived these things as having worsened over the last 14 years.”
Whitestone Insight interviewed 2029 GB adults online between 19th and 20th June 2024. Data were weighted to be representative of all adults and by past vote.
