A woman has been left baffled after she received a message from an estate agent who said they needed to speak to her about the cleanliness of her flat – and said one thing was the problem
A woman was left gobsmacked after an estate agent moaned her flat wasn’t spick and span during a viewing.
While most of us would give the carpet a quick once-over with the vacuum cleaner and stash away any potentially mortifying clutter before someone comes to look around, sometimes there just isn’t enough time to make it appear as though the place is uninhabited.
The woman in question was recently taken aback when she found out that her estate agent was less than impressed because she had left some pots and pans out after hosting a dinner party.
Venting on Mumsnet, she said her house is usually shipshape so didn’t understand the fuss – and questioned if she was really at fault. In her anonymous post, she wrote: “Had flat inspection today, I was not able to attend due to work however ensured flat was generally tidy. Hoovered etc.
“Had a few friends for dinner last night so there was some plates and cookery things by the sink for washing. I’ve been emailed by the agent saying they want to talk to me as concerned about the cleanliness of the flat.”
She hit back asking for specifics and was taken aback when they griped about the amount of washing up left. “This was something I was not thinking would be an issue… having some washing by the sink,” she confessed.
“I admit there was quite a bit due to having friends round but surely I am entitled to reasonable enjoyment of the property and having dishes to be cleaned has nothing to do with them. I would understand if it was something that could damage the property or a dirtiness issue.. but that flat was overall tidy.” Seeking advice on how to respond, she confessed her confusion over the sky-high standards enforced by the estate agent.
The crowd rallied behind the bewildered woman, with one advocate stating: “Wow that’s unbelievably rude of them. They have absolutely no right to comment on your personal habits.”
Meanwhile, another supporter insisted: “Tell them that your washing up schedule is none of their business and that dishes in the sink is not an unreasonable state of untidiness.” A third commentator added: “Agent sounds like they are nit picking over nothing.”
