Switzerland is one of the safest and happiest countries in the world, and the government is offering a bonus of 20,000 CHF (approx £18,000) to young adults under 45

Ever fancied packing up your life and starting afresh in a new country? The thought of the cost alone is enough to put most people off. But what if you were actually paid to move? Believe it or not, there are countries out there that will give you money to relocate. One such place is Switzerland, often cited as one of the safest and happiest countries in the world.

The Swiss government is offering young adults under 45 a bonus of 20,000 CHF (around £18,000), plus an extra 10,000 CHF (approximately £9,000) per child, to settle down in the idyllic alpine village of Albinen, Switzerland. There are a few conditions though – you’ll need to buy a home worth over 200,000 CHF (roughly £180,000), commit to living in Switzerland for at least ten years, and become a Swiss citizen, reports the Express.

“Switzerland is routinely mentioned as one of the safest and happiest countries in the world,” says Wayne Mills, Head of Operations at Seven Seas Worldwide, an international shipping company providing affordable solutions for those looking to move abroad.

He added: “Albinen is nestled right in the heart of the stunning Swiss Alps, so if you fancy a tranquil lifestyle in one of the world’s most beautiful countries – snow-capped mountains included – consider moving to Albinen!” This initiative is part of a wider trend of countries trying to attract new citizens to specific areas in order to combat declining populations and a talent drain.

Living in Switzerland can be a bit on the expensive side, similar to London and New York City, but the welcome package will certainly help. Moreover, the quality of life in this stunning country is one of the highest globally. The Swiss enjoy an average lifespan of 84 years, four years more than the OECD average. The crime rate is also one of the lowest, and it ranks among the top ten countries for healthcare. Other nations are also offering financial incentives and packages to attract new residents.
