A hidden gem in Europe has been crowned the world’s safest holiday spot, and it’s likely not on your travel radar. Just next to Spain, Andorra is a picturesque haven brimming with stunning landscapes, serene lakes and majestic mountains.

Security specialists at ADT crunched the data on various factors, such as overall crime rates and fear of theft, to determine the safest countries for tourists this summer.

The diminutive European nation of Andorra clinched the top spot due to its remarkably low crime index rate, with both visitors and locals expressing few worries about personal safety.

The experts said: “Located in the Pyrenees mountain range, this hidden gem of a country is an ideal getaway, offering breathtaking natural scenery, exhilarating mountain rollercoasters, and a wealth of museums just waiting to be explored.”

Despite its allure, Andorra only draws in around 150,000 British holidaymakers each year – a figure dwarfed by the 18.3 million Brits who flock to neighbouring Spain.

One must-visit attraction in Andorra is the Mirador del Roc del Quer. This awe-inspiring glass-walled viewing platform, perched 400 metres high, boasts unrivalled mountain vistas and has been hailed by travellers as a “must-see”, reports the Express.

Art enthusiasts will also find plenty to love in Andorra. The capital, Andorra la Vella, houses an original Salvador Dalí sculpture named La Noblesse du Temps, or the Nobility of Time.

Echoing the large melting clock that features in many of his artworks, it’s a sight that everyone should behold – and it’s an ideal spot for snapping photos too.

Another compelling reason to add Andorra to your travel bucket list is its shopping scene. As a tax-free country, you’re bound to snag some bargains.

In fact, there’s an entire street famed for its allure to shopaholics – Meritxell Avenue of Andorra la Vella extending to Vivand, also known as The Shopping Mile.

Here, you can purchase clothing, jewellery, perfume, and footwear, among a host of other items, potentially at lower prices than back home.

According to ADT, Slovenia was ranked as the second safest country on the list. This is primarily due to low levels of street crime, and whether it’s the picturesque Lake Bled, the historic capital of Ljubljana, or the stunning Julian Alps, there are plenty of captivating sites to discover.
